I’ve been debating that one, @Harvey - Do they usually use similar targets?
@Dawn
Things to consider. Outdoor/Indoor range availability for some may prevent some from practicing. Also, draw v low ready rules across our various ranges.
Perhaps multiple monthly challenges.
Same target: Let’s call it the “@Zee Target” just ‘cause she’s cool.
- Low Ready 10 yrds 5 Shots, par 5 sec, on Zee Target. Plus penalties for shots after par.
- Slow fire 25 yards, 10 shots, no time, total score.
@Dawn It varies. As @Sully_LST pointed out, everyone’s range availability is different. Some may only have indoor available, but not outdoor or vice versa. Some ranges have rules on drawing or movement and some have rapid fire prohibitions.
So the idea is what is the monthly challenge that can be done by the greatest amount of people. X rounds in Y size target in Z seconds is pretty fair, but obvsly doing that every month gets boring quick. So whoever runs it (NOT IT) would need to be kinda creative in the challenges, but also have a good way to track and show progress. I think for those that want to participate it could be fun.
Examples of some I’ve seen:
@Harvey and @Dawn
How about making the first month everyone handicap month, and then we are competing against our progress compared to others?
Kinda like how bowling leagues work.
OK - you guys got it! I’ll be working on the first on this afternoon when I’m playing chauffeur for a doctor’s appointment (well, not when I’m driving, when I’m waiting at the office
)
I’ll take any suggestions you have! In fact, I’ll start a new thread for it…
Got a new carry gun and needed to blow off some stress this evening. I definitely picked the right gun for me.
First 3 shots:
After a couple of magazines and some rapid fire:
I’m happy I got to break the gun in and get some tension out.
@Dawn… I’m assuming the new carry toy is SIG…
I can tell after your first 3 shots
It is - and it shoots like a Sig - smooth and accurate.
365 X carry?
Something new agrees with@Dawn!!!
Cheers,
Craig6
@Dawn knows what is best
Nope, the original 365.
I’m impressed with your ammo expenditure control (not using a full box
)
So details friend, details…distance, rapid fire, strong/week hand or both, from the holster or low ready?
A gun I’ve never fired, to shoot my qualification for my CCW renewal. Stopped on the last 3 shots, because the one before them “sounded” weak. Was worried about a squib. Was watching the gun more than the sights then. That’s why there’s only 30 shots. Had this just been a range day, I’d shoot a whole box, of every caliber. Oh, this was 10 shots at 5 yards, 10 shots at 7, and 10 shots at 10 yards. Yes, I know I started trailing up and left. That’s when I wasn’t sure if the gun was firing, or a squib was about to blow up in my face. The instructor assured me he was seeing the paper move. He’s someone I trust, so I marched on.
First time firing 1911A1 at 13 yards
All mags had one FTF on the black gun. The other worked perfect. Not all of these hole were being aimed at the bullseye but rather various points for myself to see clearly how I was doing. Total of 66 FMJ 230 gr and 7 JHP 230gr
I used Wilson Combat mag, Springer mag and Tisas mag. The WWII clone worked flawless. I need to go back. I was really tired when I quit.
So this was a lot of fun… The video is actually a few months old now, but I hadn’t set up an account to stream it. Sorry, I know some of you won’t play a YouTube video; wish this forum supported posting videos.
Anyway, my P320 at 25 yards vs. a new set of AR500 gongs.
One more, just for fun. Keep your eye on the fly.
This makes me think of that scene in Karate Kid, only using a Sig P320 instead of chopsticks!
i can see your point but, your defense attorney could also use it against the prosecution. just by proving that the more proficient you are, you would hit where you are aiming. so if there is one shot to the attackers dominate shoulder or arm or in the leg just to wound them, that you may not know the attacker is able to use non dominate side and kept on with the attack so you had no other choice but to shoot center mass just to stop your attacker. this is just my opinion though. if i was to be posting pics of my targets, i would make sure that i am dating them. this would should that you are training to become more proficient in stopping any attack. if you are good enough to be hitting center mass almost every time then you’d be able to hit anywhere to just wound your attacker. so yeah it could go either way. would really depend on the judge and jury. a prosecutor can said what they wish but, if there is any doubt in the mind of the jurors by what the defense says then i believe most likely you would be found not guilty.
I’ve gotta share my night shooting results from this evening with you all… I’ve been running the USCCA 5x5 drill lately, using my Sig P226 air gun. I took it up a couple of notches here.
The drill (available on the USCCA Protector Academy website) is 5 shots at 5 yards on a 5” target in 5 seconds. Tonight’s drill was 8 shots (the full P226 mag) with the other parameters the same, and adding dim lighting (it was 9:00pm).
I stuck my Mantis X3 on the gun to measure my theoretical performance. I’ve included those stats as well. They make me start to wonder how accurate an assessment the device can make. With 8 shots in < 2s, it appears to have been flailing.
Anyway, here are the results:
Run #1
Stats for #1
Run #2 (blue tape is covering the 1st run holes)
Stats for #2
