I have watched a good number of his videos. This guy seems to be the “real deal”.

This is actually the first video of his that I have seen but I have heard him interviewed on a couple different podcasts in the past and he certainly has a lot of knowledge and useful information on this topic.

Master Bobby Lawrence the Master I got my Black Belt under used to pair up smaller guys/gals with bigger guys/gals. His philosophy was “On the streets, is a guy/gal smaller than you going to attack you?” As far as instructors go, I try to be realistic, especially with the female students, but not abusive.

When I was doing midevil reenactment fighting, I went against absolute MOUNTAINS of men! I’m 6’1” and when I was fighting, about 190lbs tall but lanky.
Fridge (got that name because he literally brought a fridge door as a shield) was 6’6” 340 OUT of armor!
Even though I was smaller than him, I beat him fairly regularly, because I was simply quicker and had different perhaps better techniques than him.
Conversely, I got my @$$ handed to me by a 110lb girl!!!
I had no clue I was fighting a woman until AFTER the fight when she took her helmet off.
Yes size plays a part in any hand to hand engagement, skill plays a much bigger role!

@BobbyJean Unfortunately, big thugs like that like to pick on smaller guys cause they don’t like fair competition, but when a little guy has no choice against Godzilla, and is in fear of great bodily harm or death, either turn around and run like hell (escape) or if it’s not possible, and if armed, well, we all know what needs to be done, just be sure to call 911 and then call USCCA.

Mike 164 the worst azz whipping I have ever ever gotten was a much smaller guy who said he was sorry for kicking me in the nuts and then busting my nose all to hell. But an instructor should never have much taller and out weigh the student. Because they can not get the confidence that they truly need to be able to understand the arts . MY BIG BROTHER WAS 6,7. and I was .5,10 . AND WHEN HE DIED I COULD STILL NOT KICK HIS ASS. TO ONE SIDED . THATS WHY GOD MADE A HAMMER 
MY INSTRUCTOR HAD A WOODEN LEG. And he was half jap. And. Half .HAWAN. AND HE KNEW MOCK. And could. STOP YOUR HART AND MAKE IT BEAT BACKWARDS . And that’s no joke. And no he never sheared it with us outher then on us haw haw he has 13 schools in Orange County California . And his name is DAV. And he was my welding instructor as well brother. !!

My coach isn’t all that much bigger than me but he has the skills to mop the floor with me every time if he wanted to. But he is really good at making things as challenging for me as he can while still letting me “win” the majority of the challenges. This builds a confident image in my mind that makes me expect to win if I put everything I have into it. If he feels me not putting everything I have into it he just keeps pushing me harder until I do.
I’d rather train against people bigger and stronger than me because as @Mike164 pointed out I am a lot less likely to be attacked by someone smaller and weaker. You just need a coach or training partner that works to build your skill and confidence as apposed to someone out to prove how much better they are than you.

That’s why I like sparring with the Pro Fighters, they know how to stay just a tiny bit ahead of me. Be it catch and release in JJ to a good hard shot to the face in boxing to a stiff kick landing on the rib cage during Muay Thai. They let me know that I could have been knocked out without knocking me out. Then they explain how they set it up and how they executed it.
