I don’t ever want to fight anyone. My ego is secure enough that I have no problem walking away if given the option regardless what anyone else thinks. But if someone seriously threatens my family or threatens to keep me from getting home to my family I will do everything in my power to end that threat. Starting with avoidance and deescalation if given the chance but going to whatever force is necessary if I’m given no choice.
I am solidly in my 50s and not as healthy and physically capable as I used to be. But I am more skilled than I used to be and have always been very stubbornly determined when I need to be. Also because I have no interest in fighting to prove my self worth to others I have no problem fighting dirty if given no choice. I may not win against a stronger more capable opponent but it won’t be for lack of trying if they don’t give my family and I the option to safely walk away.
It is amazing how much of a deterrent that is. I have used a similar line a few times. It seems they expect you to be afraid, and not want to fight. Well, I don’t want to fight…
Drunks and those on other drugs are a different story, though, but they frequently aren’t seeking violence, either. I worked night shift at a convenince store in a tourist area as a kid, so I have dealt with innumerable numbers of those sorts.

Myself, I have a brown belt in Kenpo Karate. I wouldn’t let them get that close. If they did, I would attempt to push them away and pull my EDC…Moreso than not I would rather push them away if they got that close…if not, id let it go. I would rather not start a confrontation. I want to do my best to let it go unless theres no other recourse. Again, as previously stated in other responses, id like to live another day.
