Displaying signs on property

So a chp friend said i should not display any signage that suggests homeowner is armed is not a good idea. Ive crazy pot growing neighbors. Only one is stupid enough to start a war with me, not armed war but legal war. I thought about displaying something not on the fence but on my property and visible from our shared road. Chp friend said if the neighbor trespassed and something happened i would be doubly liable because of the signage.
Im curious to know your thoughts on this. Thanks.

CHP? As in California?

I’m not a big fan of posting those types of signs in my yard. I’m not sure of how it could affect you legally, but I have seen it is a notice of firearms being inside the home. Patient criminals will learn your patterns and wait for the right time to break in and attempt to take possession of them.

What kind of display or signage are you referring to, in particular?

What do you hope to accomplish from the display?

Some of the signs are tongue in cheek or puns. My neighbors have trespassed in the past. I have lots of signs stating cameras and no trespassing . Posted. I was just curious. Wonder if i should paint my fence pists purple at the top.

My guess, based on “tongue in cheek” or puns, and your hesitancy to post them to this thread, is that they probably aren’t a good idea

You already are in a legal war. Not sure how signs could be beneficial to you. I’d heed your CHP friend’s advice.

Don’t tell anyone anything, with or without signs. No bumper stickers. Zippo. What would a sign do for you?

Thanks

Wouldn’t it be a 1st Amendment issue

IF the government were making it illegal or telling him that he can’t, perhaps it would be a 1A issue.

But that’s a little different from looking bad or being used against you in court if something else happens

Yeah. I was told they could use my signage in court against me. Crazy. Most sane people would consider this a warning.
Maybe I should just paint the post tops purple.

I bet the % of folks who know what it means is well below 1%

Landowner Protection Act.

I would stick with the ever popular “BEWARE OF DOG”.

Yes, but…what kind of a warning?

We still don’t know what signs or language you are referring to.

Is it language that people might take as a warning that you will shoot them for trespassing? Just as an example of something some “tongue in cheek” signs say, which would not be the kind of warning you want to have associated with you in court

No doubt

My sign and I will not take it down

Which is totally your decision, but the kind of sign I can see a CHP officer/other recommending against, as warning that you might kill someone for stealing probably wont’ go over well

Something like this, yes.
And the Florida signs being displayed.
You loot, we shoot.
