(What about putting advertising in one place in stead of in the community discussions, other members also commented on that :red_question_mark:
PS: thanks for a reasonable response time on the issue.

@Blacky - can you clarify what youre getting at? The way you quoted leaves me quite confused. Thanks.

I may be alone in this but I get lost trying to follow a thread at times and the advertising confuses me all the more. Put the ads in the left or right margin please @Dawn

I am SO GLAD that the new colors make it easier to read the Community. (I thought it was just the reading classes I finally caved and started wearing  )

On the topic of old threads - there is still a ton of great information in older threads that can be very useful to people who are new to the self-defense lifestyle and the Community. While some of the threads are older, there are very few that are irrelevant or out-of-date. For example, this thread was started in January of 2019 (the month the Community launched) and y’all seem to find it useful.

Older threads will die off when they are no longer useful or relevant. Granted, I don’t think we’ll allow thread necromancy 15 years from now (wow, @OldGnome - that’s wild). We’ve got a long time to go and grow between now and then and who knows what information will still be viable then.

@George98, that is something I’d love to be able to do. However, we’re working with some platform limitations at this point. Until we can finagle some tech changes, we’re going to make some graphic changes to be less disruptive to the reading experience.

@Blacky, we love feedback! Some feedback is something we can act on quickly; some feedback needs more discussion and planning; and some feedback ends up in the not actionable pile for a variety of reasons.

Just putting it out there! Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the suggestion! I do use this thread to show what the Community is requesting as a way to sway some priorities :innocent:

I’m finding the ads to be fairly unobtrusive. I know that might place me in the minority.

I’m with you on that. I think we all can learn from each other, but I know how hard it can be to ask a question when there’s some concern over how it will be taken (sorry you’re kinda lumped with other guys here, you know I don’t like generalizations).

For now I’m going to keep enforcing the positive, welcoming, respectful environment here.

We can create “women’s topics” (leggings is a good example) they can be labeled as such. If there’s a lot of demand for a women’s only group going forward I am happy to explore it further.

Actually I’m glad we still have access to old threads.
I’m the person who doesn’t like more stuff than is needed… means creating double threads here.

I’d like all members to use SEARCH option before posting. Sometimes ADDING information to existing post gives more value to discussion than CREATING A NEW thread.

Old threads are also good source of advices. It also shows how the Community changes…or how people changes… fe. I can find more interesting and valuable discussions from 2019 than 2021.
Two years ago we used the Community mostly for “Self-Defense Education, Training and Discussions with Responsibly Armed Americans”, in 2020 this Community was political battlefield and this year we can find everything, which might be not so bad… but unfortunately “Self-Defense Education, Training” is in minority.

I’m very late to this party so please excuse if what I say has already been discussed. On the subject of old threads I enjoy going back and reading them but sometimes the effort is very tedious. It might be useful to have a way to read only the "most liked’ replies before deciding to wade through the whole thread.

@moderators ,
I don’t know if that happens to me only, but the notification bar next to User’s picture has been acting weird recently.
The number of “New” or “Unread” has nothing to real amount of the threads and there are a lot of threads I’ve been missing because they have not been listed as “New” and I found them in “Latest” listings.

@Jerzees - in a browser or in the Discourse app? I am seeing all notifications properly in the Brave browser on my Mac and the Discourse app on my iPhone.

Both.
Phone (Android) and PC (Chrome on Linux)

It happened even last hr:

There was a new thread created by @USCCA - “The Aftermath: Richmond Case Shows What Not to Do”. Based on information about the thread, it was created about 7am this morning. There were two other threads, listed at ‘NEW’ but not that one.
I eventually found it under ‘Latest’.

I can’t help you with the Android phone, but have you tried clearing the cache in Chrome on your PC?

Hmmmm… The Aftermath post may be a unique beast as I created that one a while ago and scheduled it to go live this morning. Are you looking at the community.usconcealedcarry.com page and the issue is on the menu bar or is the issue strictly on your user picture?

@Jerzees let’s try clearing your notifications completely:
Click on your User picture/icon (upper right corner)
Click on the bell underneath it
Then click on dismiss all the way at the bottom on the right

Done.
Let’s see what happens next…
I’ll keep you posted.
Thank you.

It doesn’t seem to be related to the platform used. I see the same on the phone and PC.
Let’s see if Dawn’s method works.
