So I am a collector and have lots of toys. I really love the P365 series of guns. My P365X with WC grip and 507K is now my most carried gun. Got a regular P365 for pocket carry. Looked at a non comped X Macro yesterday. Like the gun but I have been reading a lot about rust problems, slide lock wouldn’t release with a mag in it, etc..
I read SIG would not warranty them if they became rust buckets in two days. They say that’s normal! Wondering what others experience has been before a drop the cash on one? Opinions.
BUT I don’t think rust would be a big deal if you just cleaned the gun regularly/ after range sessions. I could be wrong, but if the platform already works for you I don’t think you’d experience the issues you are concerned with with proper maintenance.
I’d be more worried about the trigger springs BUT I’ve also heard of 365s running for long periods of time without any issue. Really any firearm can have issues and breakages. That’s why we maintain them (or buy Glock … just kidding I maintain and test my Glocks too, though rare they can have issues too).
I have a bunch of the old SIG P series metal guns. Most German made. All excellent. I like SIG. Wouldn’t say I was a fanboy. But the first P365 I bought had problems. They fixed it. It was one of the early ones.
Bought a P322 and it had the barrel leading problem. They fixed that. Just like many folks though. Between the P320 problems, the trouble they have ran into with having to rework the whole XM7 rifle with all the problems it had. I am basically loosing trust in SIG.
When I sent my P322 back I asked what was the best red dot for it. The guy told me the “only” red dot it was made for was a Romeo Zero. A lie. Probably one of the worst piece of plastic crap made. I think I will look elsewhere for a X MACRO type gun. Plenty of others out there. If they were fixing the ones that were rusted after a day of shooting it wouldn’t bother me.
But even the internal FCU is coming rusted on some guns. Bad batch? Maybe. But they should take care of the customers with problems. Don’t think I’ll put out the money, they are not cheap for a polymer gun, for something iffy.
FWIW, I just recently went through the P365, MC9 Prime, and FN Reflex XL trade off. I choose the FN. Took it out for its maiden range trip yesterday. 200 flawless FMJ rounds from 4 brands went through it. 11 HP rounds fired and cycled perfect.
It received a through cleaning with alchohol, a generous more than normal oiling, and roughly 200 slide racks and dry fire prior to the range trip. The magazines were fully loaded, unloaded, and reloaded every day for about a week prior to break in their springs. Ammo was not run through the pistol for the magazine unloading. This process has been 100% successful for me with all new acquisitions.
