Why the "Gun Brand Hate"?

It is funny how people get hooked to brands. I have, at one time or another, owned or carried 25s, .38s .357s, .380s, 9s, 40s for handguns 9mm, .223, 308 and 7.62 and 12 ga in long guns. My preference is Glock only because I carried various 9mm and 40 cal models as my duty weapons and carried a subcompact as a backup/off duty weapon. They have always been reliable. I have also owned Colt, S&W, and Sig. pistols/revolvers. I have liked everyone of them, some better than others for various personal reasons. Glock has become my go to because I have the most time and experience with it and am ultimately comfortable with them in 9mm because of the international availability and price/performance.

Just because I do not prefer a Glock that does not mean I am going to bash it to someone else. If someone that has never owned one before asks me what I think I will tell why I do not like them. Along with that I will say to either find a friend who has one or rent one from the range to see for themselves first. In fact before I bought my SIG I had every intention to buy a Glock. That was until I went to the range and fired three different models. At the end of the day if my man came home with a Glock I would be like ā€œCool! When are we going to the range to shoot it?ā€

I think some of firearm brand hate is just the same as motorcycle brand hate. I know if @Dawn shows up around here on a HD I will pull my trailer behind my Goldwing to pickup the parts that fall off for her

At the end of the day she is riding a motorcycle and that is all that matters.

At the end of the day someone has a firearm is more well prepared to defend themself than someone without a firearm.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: I love it. Great example of friendly poking fun at the different brands. (I don’t have a HD or Honda but I still love the ride I have.)

Not to worry, @BJP and @Dawn, there’s room in the bed of my Ford F350 Dually for both your bikes with room left over in the cab for both of you
@DBrogue if you need the sag wagon too, yours is going to have to ride in the trailer, but there’s still a seat for you in the cab

That poking is a lot like that between Police/Fire/EMS or Army/Navy/Marines/AirForce. Everyone pokes each other but, when the feces hits the fan, there are no better friends!

While teaching handgun classes, I have run into many older men & women with weak hands or arthritis. I bought an S&W M&P 380 Shield EZ which resolved many of their problems. The slide is much lighter than most guns in 9 mm or larger. .380 ACP is a good round. The magazine has a load assist button making it easy to load. It has a grip safety and a manual safety on the slide. Take-down and maintenance is very simple. Basically, it fits most of the needs of those who have physical problems with other guns. It’s also flat and lightweight.

Of course. It’s a Chevy

I personally resisted buying a Glock for over a decade, not because I hated the gun itself, but because the Glock lovers just seemed especially annoying. Well, I finally drank the Glock Kool-Aid, and my Gen5 G19 is easily my favorite gun and I carry it all the time. It just works perfectly for ME. I still own and shoot other brands (my SIG P365 and XFive pistols will also be regulars for me), and I will always encourage others to try different guns to find what works best for THEM, not me. Someday I may find a gun that suits me even better than the G19. The great thing is that there are so many great options. I also love the idea of Gun Brand Trust that was mentioned by @Sheepdog556 as well as @Dawn.

PS - Sorry if I am repeating my words from earlier in this post.

PPS - #1 is Chevy/GMC (although their new ā€œstylingā€ is a real turn off to me, and I am mad as hell that they are killing off the Camaro AGAIN). A close #2 is Ram (I like their looks and engines, but those transmissions have always been a bit weak). A distant 3rd is Ford (the only acceptable engine for a serious pickup truck is a V8 NOT a 6 cylinder, and I don’t care how many turbos or pounds of boost you cram into those things).

Gonna go with @Zee on this one. My ford is my favorite truck I’ve ever owned. It’s not the most powerful or fastest but it’ll move a house.

But I also like Glocks so guess that why my friends list is so short. Lol

Ha! all of that, right there.
About the short list @Sheepdog556 - its not too short as long as I’m on it

In a few cases it’s because of known problems with a given make of cheap gun.

In most cases it’s kind of childish like the kind of arguments we used to get into over Ford/Chevy/Dodge.

I hate to say it but it seems that over the last 30 years or so adults have become more childish and petty than even kids were in my youth.

Good natured ribbing is one thing, being insulting is another and we should avoid the latter.

Personally I always said that the perfect handgun would be the mating of a Glock and a 1911, I think the XD/XDM platform is about as close as it gets.

Glocks are like hammers, they will do the job every time.

1911’s are functional art that will function every time and get the job done but they are more complicated than Glocks.

Honestly I think of the ā€œGlock Hateā€ that we see is just a pushback against all of the ā€œGlocks are the best gun ever producedā€ stuff you see online by people with little to no actual experience with them or much of anything else.

The best handgun is the one that functions reliably every time, that fits your hand/hands best, and that you shoot well every time.

Exactly.
Which in my case makes it a Glock

I was with the team until you mentioned Chevy vs Ford.
That argument, easlily and obviously won already by Chevy, is exempt.

I have been really trying to avoid this but I just cant any more so here goes (remember to smile).

Ford - First on race day
Chevy - Changing heads every vital yard
Buick - Big ugly irresponsible chicken killers
VW - Very Wobbly
AMC - Another memory cringe
Mopar - More operating problems and repairs
Dodge - Dirty old dented garage equipment

Should I continue? (Smile its all in fun but as you can tell I like Fords)

Also a Glock fan but agree ribbing is all in good fun. Just because I wouldn’t stand behind it doesn’t mean you’re wrong or that I’m right. Just means we have different opinions and that’s how we all learn.

I’ve worked in the automotive industry long enough to know, they are all junk. I have heard some fun acronyms and other things I cannot repeat in a family atmosphere.
