Not really a quote, but a nice short poem. I am reading a book by Robert Leckie - “Helmet for my Pillow” - about Marines in the Pacific theator. The graveyard on Guadalcanal had the following on some of the graves.
And when he gets to Heaven
To St. Peter he will tell:
"One more Marine reporting Sir -
I’ve served my time in Hell"

A neighbor of mine stopped by the other day, he runs so he has a lot of time to think. LOL. With all of the misinformation and outright lies in politics these days he came up with a quote.

So I grew up with a quote from JFK under a picture of him. My parents had it in the house. If you know anything about what he did during the war, especially with PT109 it gives more context and meaning.
Let us not ask what our country can do for us, but what we can do for our country.
Another quote I never understood until joining the military… don’t fire until you see the whires of their eyes. It is from the revolutionary war.
