Hi all, just crowing… completed the Concealed Carry and Home Defense instructor course and got my certification to teach today
And I’m pleased to say it was not a pushover course.
AWESOME training and trainers, and a very cool group of peers in the course with me… some people I think I’ll be keeping contact with long term.
@Zee That’s really awesome and so proud for you to have accomplished something you really wanted!!
@Damon thank you
LOL @Kelly thank you … and I added to my Chuck Norris connections because one of my classmates got his first black belt studying from him
Congratulations, @Zee! I heard you did great in the class!
(No, I don’t have spies everywhere - one of the TC’s for the class messaged me that Zee was in his class )
What would be one of the biggest take aways from the class for you?
@Dawn, just feeling the love
Things I learned:
On the range… WHY tipping the fingers down and thumb forward on the supporting hand works (has to do with limiting muzzle deflection in the vertical direction)
In the training material of the CC class we teach… that awareness of background also means who/what might cross in between me and in FRONT of the assailant (kid could run through there).
On teaching examples… asking an “experienced” student about their confidence and comfort level in hitting, say, a DVD-sized target propped on a table, then asking again while holding it propped on my shoulder. (That was a gut check)
On teaching skills… that as well as I know the material, I need to know the HELL out of the material, so definitely more practice for me.
On trainers… that I like the USCCA trainers Very Well!
On others in the class… that this class draws a very cool and interesting population.
On my shooting skills… more range time, more training, more range time, more training.
Overall a highly satisfying experience!
I loved it when I took the class last January (2018) - and there are definitely certain areas I’m much better versed in than others. I actually prefer teaching the areas I’m weaker in because I challenge myself to learn more.
They say if you really wanna learn something teach it
Congratulations, I hope this leads to more success in your future
Congrats! I need to start looking a little harder, unfortunately it looks like I may have to travel a good distance for any sort of training with certification.
@Spence I drove 7 hrs, there were people in my group who drove 10 or more… you might have to drive, but I’m content even with the drive time it w money well spent
Thank you and Absolutely true, it’s part of why I teach (many different things)… it makes me bring my ‘A’ Game.
On teaching examples… asking an “experienced” student about their confidence and comfort level in hitting, say, a DVD-sized target propped on a table, then asking again while holding it propped on my shoulder. (That was a gut check)
@Zee that would be something that I don’t think I would want to try. It’s like trying to shoot a apple off someone’s head and not hit them and I don’t think I could make that shot especially since my sights are off on the back side.
Exactly. I think it really brought home the idea that you might be shooting near or around other people. I think it easy to be too cavalier about what accuracy really means, and it definitely had an immediate adrenaline reaction for Me.
That actually surprised me quite a lot, because it’s a classroom setting, and it’s just a question, but I had a physical reaction to it
Congratulations, @Zee!!! That’s a great accomplishment!
Thank you @Trmptr64!
I go in July for mine instructor cert as well.
@MilVet Sweet! it’s a good course.
Congratulations @Zee!
thank you @James
I echo all the things everyone else said before I had a chance to. If I dont feel challenged then I feel I wasted my money. Sounds like no one wastes their money in this course.
