I joined the NRA this past Fall of 2020 (for my first time), and my state’s NRA as well. I think I was motivated especially after the many events of last year, and my sort of being new to this overall community. I also voted for the first time in years, and for 2A candidate/supporters. Cheers.
Life member, but I haven’t heard from them in quite a while! They went dark on us! Slightly disappointed, turned my attention to other supporters! Maybe everything is being done on the down low, but as a member I feel I have a right to know how things are progressing! Are they still on our side, are they on the Presidents side for the next 8 days.
I am a life time NRA member, I am not a terrorist, I am a Chef and a Certified Instructor.
The NRA lost my support some time ago just for customer service. During Desert Storm my wife bought me a Life Membership for the princely sum of $750. On an E-5 pay at that time it was a significant investment which she paid in full. 10 years later I got a renewal notice and ignored it because “He!! I’m a Life Member”. Yeah not so much. I have even gotten calls from the recruiting team that want’s me to sign up again and I point it oout to them and they say "Oh My, yes yo did pay that and there is nothing I can do from here. Call ###### and they will help you. I actually sat on hold for 6 hours one day during the middle of the week and never got through. As far as I am concerned if they fix what they screwed up I will support but they have some significant leadership issues that I would address first.
Cheers,

@Virgil_H , I agree on the GOA comment. I also have a fantasy of GOA and VCDL joining forces (non-resident VCDL member, here).
GOA and SAF combined membership is only a little more than NRA dues and they do their work at different levels so, they are not redundant.
@Reloader54 , I have heard some not-so-good things about NAGR. Did you look into before joining?
@Burdo, good on you! Our NRA state affiliates are where the intel comes from that gets passed up to NRA HQ. In the last few years, most state affiliates have seen a decrease in membership as members age. As VP of the Arkansas chapter, I work hard to explain this to younger folks who think that they can just join NRA and all is hunky-dorie.
Most state affiliates require that a voting member must also be an NRA (national level) member. Some states (as does AR) have a Supporting Member level that does not require NRA membership. AR is $10, I believe.
Personally, I am not a big fan of the way NRA is being ran these days but, I still join annually.
Being a member of ARPA requires it, as does my local gun club with the 300+ acre shooting range.
Absolutely correct. Those membership numbers equate to Voter numbers.
I am a member of all nra goa tfa oath keepers
Question. Where was NRA/ILA during the pistol brace debacle? As an avid gun enthusiast all I’ve heard from them is crickets. I’ve not read about NRA exec staff kicking back into the coffers, but they will accept a healthy income. NRA is no longer grass roots movement, sad. I’ll pass and go GOA.
Thank you Robert for your work, and time you put in. You have friends from all areas, far and wide, even where you least expect it.
I’m sorry, but I cannot support the NRA in any way. It is corrupt to the core and will remain so as long as LaPierre leads this organization. For years the NRA has served more as a PAC for Republican politicians than as a hedge against attempts to weaken the Second Amendment.
Good topic… I considered joining the NRA but like so many others, I would like to see the executive leadership changed. I don’t think it prudent for everyone to rush to join or begin pouring millions of dollars into the NRA without said changes. They answer the demands NOW or no donations. The NRA leadership or politicians (in general) will not be motivated to change if we support them before we get what we’re demanding.
'Til then… I will support these guys…
Firearms Policy Coalition
Gun Owners of America
They are the enemy of 2nd Ammendment hating media and politicans who are busily trying to destroy them. Too many of us have bought into their rhetoric and taken side with the enemy. The NRA is not perfect and they have made some decisions that in hindsight were not the best. They are still the strongest representative we have to defend our 2A. That’s why much of DC and Liberty hating liberals and fueling a destructive fire that too many of us are warning ourselves with. Yes I’m an NRA Lifer and have recently donated again. Yes their are other great 2A groups and I strongly support them as well but none have the clout of the NRA. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water, let’s rally around the NRA if nothing else to frustrate those trying to destroy her.
I agree completely.
If you’re an NRA member, in my book that’s fine. I don’t knock you at all…but I won’t be an NRA member until I see Lapierre out…and I’m satisfied with the new leadership.
Even more I don’t see this as an “NRA ONLY” fight. If the NRA, GOA, SAF, and other 2A support groups are wise they come together on this issue and plan the battle…THAT’S HOW YOU CAN WIN.
I’d like someone to tell me how that’s possible in the middle of a p*ssing contest. With what’s at stake, decrying current leadership and saying things like “WLP has to be replaced before I’ll support the NRA in any way” runs contrary to trying to prevent the onslaught of socialism.
(@Thomas141, I’m not saying that’s your position. You just had a handy quote.)
Many recent court cases were not brought by the NRA, but GOA and SAF, and they won! Seems not negotiating your rights away works better.
Dear Brian139,
No, Sir, you are very wrong in your assessment, conclusions, and recommendations. Contributing to the NRA is throwing good money and time and effort into a cesspool. The NRA does not have “ … some issues, …” it is a completely failed organization and a liability to all of us.
You do well to support GOA, 2AF, and such, however you dilute your own effectiveness by diverting resources to the cancer that the NRA has become.
We gun owners will suffer greatly under Biden/Harris etc., a situation which the NRA helped create through its own ineptitude. Should the NRA cease to exist it will be no great loss.
BTW, I am also a Life Member
Yes. This.
Thank you for your thoughts. We have different beliefs here and are unlikely to pursuade each other in either direction.
I attended the NRA annual meeting in Tucson last year and witnessed first hand the organizational behavior that informed and confirmed my present position relative to the NRA.
I will continue to support human rights to self defense through personal actions and support for those organization I believe appropriate and I trust you will do the same.
Maybe so. It’s just one man’s opinion. LaPierre & his loyal executive buddies gotta go! They should’ve been gone. I’m not dividing nor would I seek to do that. I still support the FPC, GOA, & (I forgot to mention) GRNC. You do what you feel is best. I’m adamant that those changes take place before I join & support. We have to start holding these folks accountable.
