My current EDC during the Houston, Texas summer is an SCCY CPX-2 in a Vedder pocket holster. Despite what you may have heard, once I had sent it back to SCCY for reliability issues, it has functioned perfectly. It has taught me that at nearly 83 I shoot far more accurately with a red dot than I do with iron sights. But I’ll never love the DA only 12 pound trigger.
During the rest of the year I’ve been carrying an all-steel double-stack 9mm Remington Recon Commander 1911 in a SwapRig IWB holster. It shoots very accurately with little recoil, and is an easy slide to rack. But the nearly 3 pound loaded weight is becoming very cumbersome,
So, I am thinking of replacing both with a Kimber CSD9 Classic OR. My only concern is about how difficult it will be to rack the slide. Does anyone here have any experience with this?
Thank you. That makes me feel better. Currently I have a 9mm commander-sized all steel high capacity 1911 which is very easy to rack. But its nearly three pound loaded weight is becoming burdensome as I grow older. I’m hoping the Kimber will replace it.
The best thing to do is go to a range that you can rent one and see how it is to operate. I will always go rent a gun before I ever buy one. Nothing worse than spending money on something you cannot use.
I’ve had issues in the past with guns from Taurus, S&W, and SCCY. But here’s the thing: in all three cases they had me ship the guns to them at their expense and fixed the issue. I’m certain Kimber would do the same.
