S&W Equalizer- name bother anyone?

The S&W Equalizer looks like a firearm I’d be interested in purchasing. Problem is the name. I think I’ll pass due to possibility of a court using the name against me someday, should something bad ever happen. Thoughts?

I’m sure the word equalizer might offend someone. Are there any words left that don’t these days. But I am having a hard time coming up with any aggressive or otherwise negative vibes from a word implying it might give you an equal chance at something. It’s not like they called it the punisher or avenger or something else “menacing”.

Agreed to a point. I’m concerned about “The Equalizer” film series that may make someone believe I was in some way out for revenge or trying to emulate it.

In that case you may want to stay away from the Ford COBRA, MUSTANG. Dodge VIPER or Plymouth ROAD RUNNER, BARRACUDA.
Might want to stick with…Fiat PANDA, Volkswagen RABBIT or a PINTO.
I doubt the speeding ticket will be any less!
However, I’ve heard if you make some modifications, that could lead to problems!

Actually, I heard pandas are quite dangerous

Yeah my EDC is pretty vanilla named. Springfield hellcat. Lol. Not something I’m real concerned with easy to just say the manufacturer doesn’t consult me when naming their firearms. The hellcat just fit my hand well and functions well. That’s all I’m concerned about. I don’t just start worrying about those kind of things there’s a lot of them out there. Just a few like talon grips, Black talon bullets, zombie bullets, those things are all over the place. Even the word Magnum I suppose to be twisted by a prosecute r. I think if they’re playing that game they’re getting pretty hard up.

Guns are so prevalent in movies it would be pretty hard to not make some Hollywood connection no matter what you carry.

I actually haven’t seen that movie. Guess there is a slight chance it could be on some jurors mind. But any juror that connects the name of the gun to a movie in a negative way on their own is likely already working with a strong anti firearm bias despite their interest in films depicting people shooting each other. Hopefully your lawyer would weed those people out in jury selection.

The prosecutor could try to bring it up somehow during trial but a good defense lawyer should be able to throw that out on relevance grounds and explain to the jury why someone like you would logically choose to own that firearm in case they ever needed to defend themselves from dangerous criminals like the one that attacked you.

I agree with shamrock I just add a few names a holster by the name of predator, or holster style named avenger.

I own a Hellcat as well. About as “dangerously” named as my arsenal gets  What do you think of it? I think it’s a little too snappy compared to my other compact nines.

Good answer. Agreed. You’re starting to change my mind LOL

I guess someone could try and paint that as a bit aggressive but a good lawyer should be able to explain why the name had nothing to do with your purchase. Even if you did decide on the tool you may some day have to bet your life on solely because it had a cool name you identified with:wink: - wanting to defend yourself and your family like a hellcat would if their cubs were attacked isn’t a very negative thing in my mind. :slightly_smiling_face:

But there are probably some names I would avoid like maybe Avenging Angel or Meet Your Maker.

Well the hellcats a micro nine and yes it can be a little snappy but it is manageable. I suggest you consider trying a 147 grain bullet. Less recoil impulse and easier to deal with I carry a 147 grain Federal hst. Good ballistics it will get the job done. Actually I own two of them. One has a thousand rounds Plus on it with no malfunctions and the other just hit 500 rounds today no malfunctions. Pretty dang reliable.

I would not worry about that for even a second. If someone mentions that during an investigation you attorney will make sure they understand how idiotic that point is and probably use it against them.

I am really in trouble. I have the Hellcat “Pro”

Actually I don’t worry about what anything I use in general is named. I go for function over looks or cool names or anything.

I am actually interested in the S&W Equalizer but have concerns with the grip safety after experience with their Shield EZ.

Of all our handguns the only two I have yet to experience a malfunction of any sort with it is my Hellcat Pro and FN-509 Tactical.

Good to know. Thanks. I prefer 147 as well, but haven’t been able to find it for a long time. Maybe I’m just looking in the wrong places.

Wow, you pointed out something I didn’t even notice- grip safety. That’s a turn off for me.
