Non-firearm hobbies

Your new hobby looks very familiar. We are fostering 3 kittens until they can find permanent homes.

Guns, gunsmithing, and loading ammo is my CHEAP hobby. Flying, working on airplanes, and building airplanes is the hobby that drains a lot more money than the shooting sports.

Aside from being a USCCA Instructor, I’m a professional musician and a woodworker (primarily woodturning).

What instrument(s) do you play?

We can start a new thread on this topic

I play guitar. Primarily Strats and various PRS SE models.

Ham Radio operator, and American Legion rider.

Ok other than my firearms my sweet gal and myself love to play poker .Tim

Electronics is my vocation and my avocation. I repair and sometimes build electronics for fun and I get paid for it, too. Before the KungFlu, I would do volunteer classes at the local makerspaces sporadically. I’m hoping to start doing that again.

My wife and I and our friends costume for sci fi conventions, pirate events, and steampunk events/conventions. We mostly make our own costumes and props. My wife sews, I build props.

I have a couple of 3D printers and a CNC carver, although other things have kept me away from getting going on the CNC.

Good afternoon everyone! I figured I’d look and see if there was a non firearms hobby thread because today, I’m messing around with one of my non gun hobbies. I enjoy working on vehicles, both normal size and mini. Back in my younger days, I enjoyed building rc vehicles. Mostly cars, boats and airplanes. I recently decided to get another plane, and rebuild an old one I crashed about 15 years ago. The club I fly at may be about to get an upgrade too!

I had a little chat with a neighbor who recommended a R.C. store. Looks like a hobby I’d take up when my grandson turns 3 or 4.

Warning: it can be expensive. There’s many good brands, but most E-flite “ready to fly” and “bind and fly” planes come with a SAFE receiver. Basically, it has three modes… beginner, intermediate, and unassisted. Beginner limits bank and pitch angles and will self level if you lose control. All you have to do is let go of the sticks. Intermediate has less limited angles…I don’t know if it has self recovery though. Unassisted is just that. Depending on the model, I call that “lawn dart” mode, and is the mode I use :joy:

We used to have two places nearby. I enjoyed going to watch them. Some really neat stuff.

I’ve been thinking about getting another, but I can’t decide. I found a really nice clipped wing P-51, a giant scale A-10, and a mig 27 with fancy functions. The more I look the more I find that I want lol

That F4U looks like a Black Horse. They make some great looking stuff! I like their 109A :upside_down_face:

All I see is a future gun range😁

There are hobbies that don’t include firearms? Oh, I do like taking photos…. Of my firearms….

Lol it can be just as expensive as guns. There’s no shortage of ranges here. The rc park is a great, fun place for kids to learn physics and coordination. There’s actually a junior competition that teaches kids engineering, critical thinking, meteorology, and the fundamentals of flight. The challenge is to take a specific model of aircraft, and convert it to carry as much water as possible to combat a simulated wildfire. Those kids could one day build some great things :slightly_smiling_face: don’t get me wrong, I love a good gun range. it’s fun and a great way to teach kids an abundance of skills, but not everyone enjoys the same things. Investment in the future in multiple ways is important.

Lately I’ve been reading a lot of big thick old books written by dead people.
I find them very profitable—there is a lot to learn!
I also try to solve chess problems. It’s humbling more often than not.
I spend a lot of time getting my dad’s '24 Model T Ford back on the road.

It seems there are many hobbies with this risk. You can try the gateway drug relatively cheap, but once you’re hooked, it can suck your bank account dry. Good thing firearms aren’t like that at all, huh?
