My favorite EDC was a Gerber Covert, a slim, thin, automatic knife that could clip in my front pocket or fit nicely into one of my knife pockets. Unfortunately, I found out that the new Coverts are no longer full auto. I’ve been searching for a similar knife for a long time, but haven’t found one, yet.
I also am a lover of Damascus blames. The history, the metallurgy, the labor, and ultimately, the beauty.
I can get lost in the ripples.
Survival knives got talked about, I have a few scattered in all my vehicles. Compass, line and hooks, sealed matches. Ferro rod, water purification tablet.
First picture is EDC all the time just like my firearm. Then 2 smaller knives. One around my neck and one taped to inside of my belt. Then 2 automatic knives choose one and a multi tool choice. I like options ![]()
I made this knife from hand but left the blade to be finished as a project for my 2 nephews of the sister who was given up for adoption, and I we connected 3-4 years ago.
They seemed to like knives so I made a Damascus Steel one and basically a blank so they could finish it how they wanted. Sort of a test to see how they would treat cold steel before I let them near my expensive pieces.
Its probably weird but if I give you a weapon, it means I like and trust you😁
I have one of those M&P OTF knives and love it, took a bit to get to learn to operate it all with one hand but its a cools knife.
I got into knives about a year ago, but since then I got into guns so no money left for knives.
You’ve got some bada$$ knives !! I’ve always had a passion for knives of all kinds.
Hey I see that auto Covert at the bottom. Hang on to that, Gerber doesn’t make it anymore. Well, to be clear, they make a Covert, but it isn’t automatic. That was my absolute favorite EDC, because it fit easily in any pocked and could be opened and closed with one hand. The only way to get one of those right now is to find a used one, and they are very expensive because the sellers know it’s the only way to get one.
In the meantime, I’m trying to find something like it. I bought a new Covert not knowing that it’s assisted open, and it’s just not the same. Most of the auto knives I have found are bigger, not the straight, slim design of the Covert.
Gerber also stopped making their Mark II infantry knife, which is a shame. That one was on my wish list. I just wanted something this style, like the Camillus M3, which is also out of production and ridiculously expensive for a used one.
For those who might be interested. I’ve had issues with tremors in my hands that made me nervous about sharpening my high end blades. So, I had heard about this knife sharpening system called Tumbler. You can buy additional pieces to complete the system, I went ahead and bought the entire system. Display Case, mounted leather strop, everything. Cost was around $100.
I got it in a few days ago. Was able to put a razor sharp edge on widely different blade types.
Works really well. Magnet holds the blades at the right angle, roll the stone back and forth on coarser and then finer grit, strop the edge on blade and voila! Razor sharp knife in less than 2 minutes.
Thanks, I’m willing to try it. I suck at sharpening knives.
Edit: @Zavier_D which model is that? I looked up Tumbler knife sharpeners, and I see them anywhere from $100 to $400.
I m not that great at it either ![]()
I saw that online and wondered how well it worked. Any recommendations on a portable sharpener that also does serrations?
