It’s not a gun problem, it’s a human problem.

This is what I always imagine with church shootings, that the congregation would all be trying to funnel through the same door while the killer picked them off. This is why I question whether “run-hide-fight” is the best strategy. Depending on the situation, “fight-run-hide” could be a better response.

I think running and hiding is a judgement call one has to make at the scene.

Doors aren’t the only exit. Windows that can open or a chair through the window can provide multiple unblocked exits. I have a roll up ladder in case a fire blocks the stairs at my house. That may not be ideal for little kids stuck on a higher floor but beats listening to shots and screams from the room next door and hoping LEOs arrive and act before the shooter runs out of targets there and heads for the next room.

…are rare in modern school buildings, unfortunately.
But yes, if they’re available and safe to use, it’s absolutely an option.

That show ■■■■■ with your head from beginning to end. From the second it starts to the credits at the end.

Toss in emergent A.I. abilities and I have 0 idea how society is going to be able to trust the news anymore.

Technology is all sparkly and pretty, but we are about to be prison sexxored with emergent technologies.

I read this thread several times and almost did not respond. Nothing wrong with the thread but it’s me and my attitude. The title of the thread if you are a firearm enthusiast and supporter of the second amendment is just stating the obvious that we all know and agree with. The problem is I don’t think no matter how much common sense is employed we will ever convince the anti firearm crowd that a gun is just a tool.

I have never seen a pistol jump up off the table and shoot someone on its own. I laid one down on the kitchen table and threw as many harsh insults and lies at it as I could and it just laid there and didn’t move!

46,000 deaths on the highway and no one it’s talking about banning high performance vehicles.

Both I and Rosie O’Donnell are fat! We should be suing the for k and spoon industry!

My grandson aced a History exam. He must have had an exceptional pencil in hand when he took the test.

Common sense is pretty uncommon, these days.

Yeah old dairy brownfield used to close out his radio show in the Midwest farm reports by saying and I quote: common sense ain’t all that common.

As I receive your replies and opinions on this subject, I see several things that are of great concern to our members; the first being their care and concern they have for the safety and security of our children; the need for a standard course of action; agreeable to all,; to follow in these events (stand and fight, run and hide, etc.); the need for immediate response to an active shooter (no waiting time for outside help, help on site), and a method of identifying and taking action to prevent any future threats. Agree or disagree with the methods of prevention to halt the massacres initiated by these killers, we, as gun owners, are being threatened with the loss of our right to carry. Already in Illinois, my home state, the AR15 and its ammunition, has been banned from sales. I, as the owner of an AR15, I am required to register with the Ill. State Police as an AR15 owner. (I will not give my AR15 up to anyone. I will take it apart, piece by piece, and throw it in Lake Michigan rather than surrender it.) But I digress, so we have a threefold reason for finding an agreeable solution to this heinous problem, 1.) the safety and protection of ourselves and our children from these vicious attacks, 2.) the identification of future threats and a system of handling identified threats, and 3.) the protection of our second amendment rights from any
further changes or restrictions and the return of any of the rights already rescinded. There is one other item on this agenda that is collateral damage committed by the uninformed, misinformed, and ignorant members of our society, government and general public and that is the difference between a human being and an inanimate object with no will of it’s own. A gun cannot shoot by itself. Lay it on a table, loaded or unloaded, and it will stay on that table until it is taken away. It takes a living, breathing, sentient human being to pick it up and depress the trigger. It takes a moral, law-abiding, sentient individual to have the sense to point the weapon in a safe direction and to follow the rules of safety that are required for the use of the weapon. Most of us fit that description, all weapons fit their description. Unfortunately
some of us are ignorant of the safety rules, and ignorant of the correct and responsible use of weapons. Also, we live in a society that is very careful in following the proper care in dealing with an individuals rights, and correctly so. But, we have a percentage of people who have personal problems, both emotional and mental, who are a danger to themselves and others and should be no where near a gun or any sharp or pointy object. These people, although ill, need to be identified and dealt with before someone gets hurt. How we identifying them and what to do when we do is the question. And lastly, what responsibility does the family and community surrounding the individuals have. The father of the Highland Park, IL shooter has been charged in aiding his son in obtaining the weapons used in his shooting spree. Must we take legal action in future shooting sprees. Many questions, too few answers. But, as discovered in these conversations, we have many members with a lot of answers. I hope the media the government, the producers of this website are reading the missives on this site. And, I hope that you as members of our group, are in contact with your gov. reps and community leaders and forwarding your ideas to them. That is the only way we can get through to them and convince that we should not be punished for the sins of others. Lets see if we still have a democracy or if we live by the axiom of “the squeaky wheel gets the grease.” God bless the USA, the Constitution, our Leaders, and ourselves. Keith 129 (aka SPIDER1).

You cannot legislate the evil out of people, they will always exist. You can only legislate the consequences of perpetrating evil.

That’s our problem right there.
