It has come to OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!...šŸ˜”

3 yr old. 73 pound Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix - with Rottweiler/GSD/Great Pyrenees
5 yr old 65 pound Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix - with Lab/American Bulldog
1 yr old 55 pound Boxer (Full - from daughter who couldnā€™t keep him)

All house dogs. All adopted. All very protective of yard/house/street as far as they can seeā€¦and both my wife and I. The boxer sometimes to a fault (daughter never socialized him - a work in progress).

Plenty of guns, but I sincerely doubt Iā€™ll ever need to use one in the house! For the next 10 years or so, anyway. I do EDC and practice at least bi-weekly with different guns in my collection to stay proficient with all. A bit less practice since COVID-19ā€¦but still enough to stay proficient.

I live in an area that one website describes as a Leave-It-to-Beaver neighborhood. I live at the top of one of the highest hills and it is very peaceful here. Behind our neighborhood are several gated communities, and one of them is filled with custom million-dollar homes. On the other opposite side is a freeway and across that is an older section of multi-million dollar mansions where a very famous rapper with a cartoon character name has two chateaus side by side. OJ Simpson bought one of the first homes there in the early 70s. Interestingly, some of those homes were built with custom shooting ranges in their basements. So these are huge homes with deep underground spaces. Now knowing all of this, you would never realize how many home burglaries and home invasions (attempted and successful) have occurred throughout the years. That older private community with multi-million dollar mansions is very secure, yet it has had at least two burglaries in the past. A website even lists an address nearby where Night Stalker Richard Ramirez raped and killed members of a family back in 1985! This was founded as a bedroom community in the late 50s, and the last property owners vowed to maintain it that way. Sadly, even this community isnā€™t immune to crime that used to be so rare up until the beginning of this century. One of the best ways to find out about a neighborhoodā€™s safety record is crimemapping.com. It really surprised me how many homes have been burglarized and even invaded. Other website communities like Nextdoor and Ring can alert you to incidents that just occurred. I recently found out that a woman and her husband were held at gunpoint and their items stoled during the day. These kinds of things are rareā€¦or were rare. I only started learning about these incidents (except the Night Stalker one) two years ago after my frightening ordeal with 3 of 4 ex-cons who tried to break into my home while I was there with my partially disabled mother. As a result of that incident, her aneurism grew so dangerously big that she had to have open-heart surgery. After reading your message about how elderly people are being targeted, I realize that deterrence through methods like lights, dogs, etc. is really the best way to maintain safety and security. Lethal weapons should be the last resort. Had I successfully used mine to stop a threat if it was warranted, I still would have had to deal with many other problems after the fact. I wasnā€™t a member of USCCA at that time, so I can only imagine the nightmares of the aftermath, especially because I live in a very antagonistic anti-gun and pro-criminal county. Your message serves as a warning and reminder that no community is immune to violent crime. Our nation seems to be devolving, and we need to prepare for the worst and unexpected.

Absolutely amazing the local media wonā€™t report on such violent and potentially deadly crimes only because the POS perps are black. However I can guarantee you if the perps were white, this story would be making headline news on national and international networks.

I like you security measures set up, sounds like LE did too considering the information they got. All this media black out really irritates me, how is the public supposed to be informed of the crimes being committed in their respective neighborhoods.

Thank you for sharing @Mel2. Having adequate lighting is sound. Most criminals like to work in the dark. Camera coverage is also beneficial after a criminal act has occurred. Seems like the only good evidence nowadays is 3-4 camera angles capturing a criminal in the act. I hope the perpetrators get a long stay in ClubFed since the local jurisprudence is a bit biased for criminals.

Saddens me to see much more coming and never thought be on high alert again in my life after war, especially on American soil When they start tearing down statues, looting, burning businesses and beatings just cause of color of skin is sad. once they really start hitting the south where there are very proud with confederate flags flying high believe this will be the start of a ground confrontation. They say that criminals have more weapons then the general legal public. Not from where I stand

Donā€™t forget to reinforce your doors with longer screws, donā€™t leave your garage door remote outside in car, and burglar-proof your garage door emergency release. With a wedge and coat hanger, a burglar can trip the release in 6 seconds. Either buy a plate that protects it from the hangar, or use zip ties to keep it closed, so that a hangar isnā€™t strong enough to trip it.

Thomas106, I agree with you 100% about the Rottie. I had my Rott since she was born and she died at 8 years old a couple of years ago due to UTI. It was a very sad day in my life. She was the best guard dog anyone could ever hope for. Always alert and very protective. She would never let anyone in the house until I told her ā€œItā€™s Okā€ or if she sees me hugging or shaking hands with someone. My gardener would have to call me every week on my cell to let me know heā€™s at the side gate because Ruki would not let him in. LOL. And she knows this guyā€¦ Not to mention the deep growling bark of a Rottie is very intimidating to outsiders. I miss her so much. I now have a full grown Lab and a 1 year old English Shepard. Great dogs but not the same as the Rottie by any means. Enjoy your new buddy!

What a beauty. Canā€™t wait to go get him, his Daddy is a real looker and nice size. My retirement will go much easier with Moses next to me. Already named him. My Buddy is going to ride with me to pick him up in a few weeks. Looking forward to training him etc. Any good tips in beginning his first few weeks at his new home. My first goal, no accidents. Every 1hr or less take outside for his business. Cage him at night next to my bed, whining will eventually stop. Any ideas. Gonna be funā€¦YES! By the way choker callers donā€™t work. But I still have my old prong caller, From what I remember he was about 80-90 before I started using itā€¦ Any who love your pupā€¦Nice!
