ILLINOIS FOID ?CCL Combo Card

I am a retired Military Veteran that earned a ILLINOIS CCL Permit along with a Utah Non-Resident Permit back in 2017. As fate has it I developed Cancer due to exposure during the Gulf War. My Permits expired as I endured months of Grueling treatments. Meanwhile as my renewal dates approached, my Home State of Illinois decided to combine the Firearms Owners ID card and the Illinois State Police CCL Permit into one card. Makes sense right? Meanwhile as I am coming back from the edge, I now have qualified for ILLINOIS, UTAH, FLORIDA, NEW HAMSHIRE, and PENNSYVANIA, with MARYLAND, CALIFORNIA, Massachusetts, and CONNECTIC in process. Most of the States Ive mention show up in Red for My State or do not accept Permits from other States. The Combo card has made it so that many States and Sheriffs staff have told me that ILLINOIS has a FOID Card and not a CCL. Sometimes out side sets of eyes can see things we sometimes miss. Its the way the Header remains the same on our FOID card and the CCL is in small letters below that. Florida has a perfect header on Thier card. So far, I have yet to be denied a permit, but it’s coming. This is my way of coming back better, having to Travel and pay for IN Person training. Retirees can do fun stuff like this !

Welcome @Jimmy_Lee1, you are a true hero in my eyes. I live in Utah and have a Utah permit, not sure how permits from other states would effect the issue of a Utah card, I’ll have to read up on that

Welcome Jimmy_Lee1. By coincidence, I ended up with four permit cards, from four different states. I work in healthcare.

Curious, are you good with the final outcomes of the permits you have, happy with them, or any specific questions you have for the group? I realize it can be “red rape”, wondering if you were able to apply for the renewals? Or do you still need to sort it out? As some of us here had similar experiences in the past.

Not sure if your card or process is different for military, but civilians in IL will have the word ‘CCL Yes’ in the upper right hand corner of their card. That’s how other states will know, or they can look it up in their database, or they can call IL police.

In IL, “Your Illinois driver’s license is linked to your Illinois concealed carry license. Therefore, a law enforcement officer will be notified immediately that you are a concealed carry license holder if they run your driver’s license;” per USCCA.

Best to you.

Welcome aboard.

Notice upper right, under the gold stripe. The “Indicator” will be Y, Yes, CCL or No, N. You have to go to the ISP portal to find the expiration date and apply for renewal.

Thank you for your service brother! I was in Desert Storm and we should have shut them down way back then but that’s another topic for another day. I’m just curious, as I try to never go to states or businesses that ban the 2A, but do you have to have a permit to OWN a firearm in IL?? Sounds as unconstitutional as it gets if that’s the case!

Yes welcome and thank you for your service from a service guy.

In Illinois you are required to have a “FOID” card to possess or purchase a firearm or ammunition. The battle has been fought for many years and while the district court has agreed it is unconstitutional the Illinois Supreme Court keeps upholding its legality. The fight continues!

@Jimmy_Lee1 Welcome to the community, and thank you for your service as we Veterans are proud to serve to protect our Freedom while we all came as strangers not knowing each other, but came out together at the end as brothers (VETERAN BROTHERS FOREVER)!. Hopefully that you are rebounding back to health.

Correct. After you find your renewal dates, write them on the back of your card with a sharpie.

Good idea! Keep in mind that your FOID self extends when you buy a gun but the CCW stays the same!

My FOID is good till 2034 but CCW expires in 2028
