How many places in the inner city are police scared of even going in to? Think the sniping is bad now, wait until society demands the police actual do something. You will need the Army/National Guard to take them back. You thought the protests for Gorge Floyd were bad, lol.
Eric313,
I tend to appreciate your view also in that I can more easily back it up, with some more recent stats, it was passed into law for a reason, and I think even those āon the fenceā can relate to laws, as opposed to God(s), religion, and a brief 1791 statement which today has too much room for interpretation. To me, if my stateās law provides for us to legally carry, then thatās tangible. The 2A does not grant me that, my stateās law does. To me, a law easier to defend.
You rock Jack2. Hope things get better. I think your ideas make common sense. Thanks for your contributions and āfood for thoughtā.
So if your State passed a law saying they were going to ignore the 13th amendment youād be fine with your neighbors going out and buying some slaves? Or if your state decided to ignore the 19th amendment youād be happy to tell all the women you know that they canāt vote any more because what your state law says is more valid than the laws laid out in the Constitution?
The US Constitution is the highest law in this Nation. It was designed to preserve the rights of US citizens from both powerful tyrants and the tyranny of the majority. It may not be perfect but itās the best chance we have for a free and prosperous society.
You are correct, the Second Amendment does not grant anything, it protects and guarantees an unalienable right that no government can āgiveā, āgrantā, nor revoke.
What interpretation does one need in āshall not be infringedā? What other meaning can one derive from those words?
I sometimes wonder if heās a troll trying to get a reaction or if heās actually serious?
While I disagree with many if not most of @Burdo ās positions I donāt believe he is a troll.
I especially disagree with his position that our rights are granted by laws as apposed to laws being designed to protect our rights. Or at least they should only be designed to protect our rights even though it seems more and more laws these days are designed to trample them.
He is a USCCA member which would make it an expensive trolling habit. He also seems to be for protecting and even expanding the firearm rights that are important to him. Unfortunately people only caring about protecting the rights that are important to them is how everyoneās rights get eroded over time and totalitarian governments eventually take hold.
Personally I think it takes guts to voice a differing opinion on this forum. Hearing differing opinions is vital to keep discussions from devolving into confirmation bias echo chambers. I hope Burdo continues to share his thoughts. I also hope he is open minded enough to listen to and consider ours. At the very least it is good practice for figuring ways to better open peoples eyes to the importance of the 2A to preserving our lives, rights and freedoms.
I know that discussions here have made me a more ardent supporter of our right to self defense. But if I had come here a little less sure of what those rights were and how important they are I might have just left looking for a place with people who would listen to my point of view and not just want to vote me off the island.
We need as big a tent as possible to defend our right to self defense. The bigger the tent the more dissenting voices there are going to be. But we canāt expect people to listen to, except and act in favor of our concerns if we arenāt willing to listen to theirs.
Very true. Iāll give him credit there!
Thanks for the reply.
I think a large problem we face as a nation is conditioning from the television.
I havenāt watched it in years. Yesterday I was forced to in the chair at the dentists office. I was surprised at how fast and frequently it switched camera angles and how it seemed zoomed in too much too often. No wonder kids have adhd
I force myself to watch a little bit of main stream news every week just so I can try to understand why the majority of people I come in contact with think the way they do.
It is a very frustrating and frightening experience. But when I hear people on the street parroting the mediaās talking points at least I know where those ideas are coming from and why so little thought has been put into what outcomes those ideas will actually result in.
Bill,
We are in illinoisistan solely for the 9 specialists at Childrenās my youngest son has seen for 17 years. Upon his graduation in spring of '23, we split.
That said, the whole state is destroyed. We have as many illegals(by percenyage) as Kalifornistan. The schools are a woke joke. Its bad.
As for carriers at the parade in HP, its illegal to carry concealed in Illinoisistan at festivals, parades, and other large public gatherings. Every outdoor event is one giant kill box for the bad guys to ambush the public. Its truly a joke hereā¦which isnwhy so many are popping smoke and calling for exfil. The state will be a barren wasteland in a few short years.
Good for you. I pray the Lord blesses you and your children. Amen
Letās stay in reality here. The Liberals do not send out shooters. This shooter lives very close to the kid that went to Kenosha, WI. Neither appear to be Liberal in any way.
What God? Seriously? He just decided not to go to the parade because has he put it his dog would want to play with every dog there! It was more than he wanted to deal with. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Itās also true in NC and many other states.
Highland Park has no special laws concerning guns. You have to go to the State Police to get a Concealed Carry. I grew up in HP. I have family who still live there.
They are reporting the news. You just donāt want to hear facts. Thatās whatās wrong today. Facts donāt matter.
The news donāt look for facts, they edit what they want. Illinois red flag laws didnāt do any good to prevent this sad thing that happened. If I remember correctly, Highland Park does have ordinances for magazine restrictions among other things from back in 2013 which again didnāt helpā¦
Iām sure some of this was stated above when the thread was createdā¦
First, rittenhouse didnt āgo to wisconsinā. He grew up there and his father lives there. He probably should have stayed away from the fray, but he did nothing wrong once there. A jury acquitted himā¦end of story.
As for the HP shooter, he is in fact an antifa leftist. All of his social media proved such(it was publicized before the leftist prosecutors erased it from public view.
You are wrong. Highland park has magazine bans, and āassault weaponsā bans. If you are going to make statements of fact, you may want to research them first.
I live in a neighboring city and must carry 10 round mags if im going to pass throufh highland park or deerfield. Its a joke. Its also in direct violation of the illinois constitution.
