Interesting. I used to work near there and drive past the intersection where it happened. When I heard the recordings of the shots, it sure was a higher caliber. My grandpa gave us his .22 LR rifle, major difference in sound.
In the memo below “Police say he legally purchased a high-powered rifle, disguised himself in women’s clothing, and climbed to a rooftop.”
In the news vids, when they cuffed him, I noticed he wore neon pink undergarments.
I want my rights but I also don’t want more men to do what he did. I’m only one person, of course, but I’m willing to make more sacrifices to try to combat this. Still, there are too many places we are not legally allowed to carry, that ain’t right either, IMHO.
Something does not seem right, that it was that easy for him to be able to do what he did. Sad. I try “not to let my heart be troubled”.
This morning, on way to work, stopped by a coffee shop, where they have an enormous cloth flag in the window, symbolizing solidarity. Never looked at it before like I did today, was drawn to it, walked over and stood right beneath it, almost wanting to be wrapped in it:

Even though they haven’t mentioned what type(s) of rifles were used, one thing immediately came to mind after today’s news…
If the current laws were actually enforced, he would never have been able to purchase whatever firearms were used. Total failure on the persons responsible for their “Red Flag” laws…
Another interesting thing, this guy obviously was not suicidal, he had every intention of surviving and getting away.

If you are talking about red flag laws, they are against the law, if you believe the constitution is our governing document.

I wasn’t referring to whether they are constitutional or not.
The point is Illinois does have “Red Flag” laws which as usual were not used in a case they should have been used in.
I am sure they get used against innocents, but when a case comes up that they should have been used, failure…
Shows the problems with more laws like this that the feds are trying to push…

This is a recurring theme with you. What sacrifice that you would make have changed this? How does our giving up rights, property, etc., stop someone with murderous intent? Our role is only to protect ourselves and loved ones, with an even rarer possibility of protecting a stranger. We are not the ones that are the danger to society. Taking away our rights and property will not save us from them (those that are the danger).

There is a report the psycho had gone into a local synagogue, also on a holiday, and was thrown out. I want to know more details, like, did he plan anything and was it the armed guard that changed his mind.

I think a good question that should be asked is: why weren’t officers, aka snipers, located on roof tops along the parade route? I thought that was SOP now days for events like this.

What more right would you have the people of Highland Park give up? Illinois has the FOID card. Highland Park has an “assault weapon” ban. It was a parade, that qualifies as a “permitted event”, so it was a Gun Free Zone by law. Obviously, the extra “laws” (see infringement) did not stop this horrific action. Add on top of that, as others said, Illinois has a Red Flag law, and this nut job was known to police because of his violent social media posts.(No I don’t agree with RF laws, but Illinois does have one). Another prime example of the system failing the people.

Well said. This freak was a poster boy for Red Flag law, for being placed on the NICS database because of mental health treatment following suicide threat, for being charged with making terroristic threats in separate episode. None of it happened! He was in the sights of the system, both the part that is iffy from Constitutional standpoint, and the part that everyone agrees with.
So why? Is it because of his dad’s connections (mayoral candidate at one point)? Is it because police is generally suppressed in this leftist town? Is it because the political views he espoused made him a fellow traveler to people in charge?

I don’t recall seeing anywhere that “Social Media” accounts were part of background checks or Red Flag Laws for that matter. Maybe they should be?
