My last unopened bottle. One day Iāll share it with a few special friends. Almost unobtainable now, and very expensive if you can find a bottle. Described by the experts as one of the best bourbons made. Iāve had three bottles in the past and can attest to that.

Life long beer drinker here. Iād been in hog heaven enjoying the fact that after 45 years of trying to find my favorite beers from around the world, suddenly the United States is truly the premire beer brewing country in the world. The selection of amazing brews is mind boggling.
Then I found out Iām celiac. Wheat gluten is absolutely toxic to my body, even in the tiniest amounts and all beer had ridiculous amounts of it.
Enter whisky. Iāve always loved single malt Scotch. Iām just leaning about the different bourbons and Tennessee whiskies, but am enjoying it. Nothing will replace a wonderful wheat ale or IPA after a hot day at work, but some good whiskey does help mitigate the loss. I even still have some old Japanese whiskey from past trips there that is really unique and delicious. Iām finding there are as many great whiskies as beers, and life is good!

I bought 4 bottles about 20 years ago or more from BevMo in CA. The most I paid then was about $350ā I think the first bottle was about $80. Drank two, gave one to my brother in law and have one unopened bottle left. It is now completely sold out and only available through specialty dealers. Iām stunned just how much they sell for now.
BTW my go to bourbon for cocktails is Jim Beam. Makers Mark for a rocks drink. Also partial to Bulleit Rye.
Jack Daniels single barrel and JD apple mixed with some sprite. My go to. Just wish Jack Daniels wasnāt so expensive. When I go cheaper Jim Bean apple.
Knob Creek Single Barrel select 120 proof (special occasions) Knob Creek 9 year 100 proof. And Makers Mark. But donāt drink bourbon at bars , beer only. Bourbon at home with Arturo Fuente Double Chateau Sun Grown.
I will get Woodfords if I see it on sale.

I tried Old Forresters this weekend for the first time (90 Pf). Very nice flavor I thought, reminded me of a Makers. Quite a gentle taste on the palette.
Also tried Dickel bourbon (90pf). Didnāt like it as much. Something very earthy about it. I can see people liking it, itās just not my style.
Iām a Scotch guy for the most part. Second to that, I like a good rye (Woodford, Knob, and on the more bourbonny side of rye, Bulleit).
Having said that, when I drink bourbon, itās almost always Woodford Reserve. The best Manhattanās Iāve ever made were with Woodford bourbon, Woodford cherries, Woodford bitters (sassafras & sorghum), and Dolin vermouth. Somehow, it almost tastes like vanilla cake. To make one with a rye, I prefer Woodford spiced cherry bitters. It blends well with that spiciness of the rye. But drink 'em while you can. In another week itāll be margarita season.
