Booze and nothing but booze!

Tired of waiting for my original to get approved so I’m dropping it here and if someone objects maybe one of the ghost moderators will just move it to the right forum…

What’s your poison! I love all types of whiskey probably the best! But by God a good añejo Tequila, a great craft beer, a smooth Vodka or a wonderful liqueur like Grand Marnier can all make me smile. A good bottle of wine, a distinctive cognac (or even better a vintage Armagnac) and aged rums all have their day in my glass too.

So what tickles your fancy! Let’s have some recommendations, love obscure brands and value finds! And some recipes for cool cocktails?

So I’ll start, my son-in-law is also a bourbon lover and collector of fine bottles and he turned me on to this. If anyone here is in the Phoenix area find your way to Total Wine and buy a bottle of Carefree. When I’m down there I clear the shelf.

You’re welcome…

BTW since my original post got stuck in limbo I tried it with some of this which a member recommended. It is life changing! THANK YOU!!!

I don’t really drink booze, but, I’ll have a little sip of Herradura Anejo Tequila, I’ll drink a beer once in awhile and it’ll be Modelo spicy Chelada!

When I drink, a good bourbon or single malt Scotch.

Bourbon is America’s liquid jewel.
It is the only libation I can drink for hours on end and never suffer a hangover from.

I regret that I have but one liver to give to my bourbon.

So many bourbons, so little time.

Did I say I love bourbon?

I have been blessed or cursed with some sort of a gene that prevents me from having hangovers. It has come in handy over the years. My wife on the other hand goes for PARTY to USELESS overnight with barely enough energy to crawl from bed to couch for a whole day before she recovers

This used to be my poison,

now it’s either water or Fresca.

Evan Williams white label bottled in bond is a bargain for an excellent Bourbon.

For Cognac, Courvasier when properly warmed tastes like a dream.

For mixed drinks, I, tend towards Negronis and Boulevardiers—the same drink only Negronis use Gin (excellent in the Summer) and Boulevardiers use Rye (preferred for Winter) and of course Picon Punch,
which is an Old West/Basque concoction which is obligatory whenever I find myself at a Basque saloon in Nevada, Idaho, Montana or California.

Identify the gene, and bottle it!

Wish I could, my sisters share it too! I’ve seen both of them drink men under the table and just laugh…

For Rum aficionados find a bottle of THIS and try it when you have a chance. YOU WILL thank me!

Drink it straight out of a brandy snifter. The smoothest Rum ever with a strong note of molasses and raw sugar cane. NO water, ice or coke needed. Get two bottles, a single one goes fast.

Scotch is a very personal thing.
My preference is for Glen Farclas single malt.
Why? An old gent who used to hang out at a local chess club/ coffee house back when I was in college.

Manny was in a bomber crew based in Scotland during WW2 and must have been offended that I didn’t like Scotch and graciously took it upon himself to teach me how to appreciate it by giving me Scotch lessons.
Glen Faclas was his brand and that’s what I learned to drink.
I’m forever in his debt.

I had a similar experience with Canadian when I was just a boy and my Uncle Al, who built dams in Canada, introduced me to VO—I don’t think he ever told his sister (my mom.)

So often, the drinks we love have played a special bonding role in our lives.

Perhaps that’s where “Bottled in bond” REALLY originated.

I used to be solely a beer drinker and didn’t have discriminating taste, only condition was it has to be ice-cold. My son introduced me to IPA but it was meh :face_with_diagonal_mouth:
Stout is my favorite but I’m also a sucker for German imports.

Vodka was love at first taste but it was the opposite for whiskey.
I’m in wine country, would occasionally pair drink with food but won’t miss wine if it’s not available.

I rediscovered whiskey during the plandemic. I don’t go out of my way to buy, mainly dependent on which kind my son brings me: scotch, single malt, bourbon.
One time, I ran out and decided to buy a cheap bottle of Jim Beam just because I had a crush on Mila Kunis. Never again!
Not a connoisseur, my preferred brand is Jack Daniels.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Jack Daniels, God only knows I’ve put enough of it away in my life! They have been making it for a loooooooooong time for a reason.

Learning to truly “enjoy” libations is a wonderous journey. My favorite beer was “cold” for many years, until I was to travel across the pond. It was there I was introduced to “tepid” bitters and stouts.

Full Disclosure, I haven’t had a drink in over 30 years. That said, while playing Army in Germany I was introduced to this seasonal beer from the local brewery Parkbrau in Pirmasens… as a 17 yo GI. If I were to drink again, god forbid, this would be my starting point

I’ll drink anything and everything. I don’t drink much, when I do I like hoppy beer, Guinness Stout and whiskey.
