Appendix Carry: Is AIWB the Right Choice for You?

If I loose 35 pounds, maybe?

Right now my build doesn’t allow me to carry appendix comfortably.

Perfect for someone with no beer belly like me :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

No, not at all.
When I first started carrying I tried all the things the pros were suggesting. First was 4 o’clock. I soon found out that because of my body proportions, I could not clear the leather well at all! I couldn’t get my shoulder/arm high enough to get it out. And please, don’t reply that all I have to do is practice!!! I don’t have that much time to rearrange my body, if I could. Not only that, anytime sitting, including in the car, was uncomfortable and harder to access.
Then I tried to AIWB. First, I was never comfortable with the fact that the muzzle is pointing at my JUNK or GIRDLE. But very soon I realized that it doesn’t matter, because that doesn’t work either. My presentation was greatly improved, but while seated, my EDC was pressing into my guts causing an internal disruption in my body that didn’t feel good.
Now, what works for me is a cross-draw at 9 o’clock. The muzzle isn’t pointing at anything, presentation is as fast as I can be, it’s not pressing into my internal organs and I can draw while sitting! Plus, I don’t carry IWB. When I did the holster stuck to my body, it was hard to adjust and uncomfortable. Now, it’s outside of my pants and under the belt with it pushed as far to the 9 o’clock position that my belt loop will allow.

It is what ever is comfortable for the carrier, then it’s all practice. :+1:t2:

In my present warm weather rotation I appendix carry an S&W J-frame 38 or a Glock 43. I’ve lost 85 pounds, so AIWB is very comfortable for me, even while seated.

During winter months I will usually carry a CZ P-07 OWB at 2 or 3 o’clock, covered by a jacket, or wear an outer garment with concealed carry features, usually set up in a cross-draw from the high 10 or 11 o’clock position.

I appendix carry at 2o’clock and find it very comfortable, this especially true after I switched from my Safariland Incog X to a Tenicor Certum3. I could stand to lose 20lbs but this works for now..

I currently carry an Sig P365X, and the PHLster Enigma has given me the most flexibility and comfort with concealment. While it has a learning curve, I believe it’s one of the best concealment setups on the market and can be a staple in everyone’s closet

A woman’s review but worth considering as an alternative to AIWB in certain situations. Anyone use this?

Depends on where I am in that gain/lose 10 pounds cycle. If I can’t carry AIWB, I usually go 3:00 OWB

I tried 9 o’clock (for a lefty) but CA attire would make it easily print. Rotator cuff won’t allow 8 o’clock so I’m stuck with IWB crossdraw 1 o’clock.

@Karacal your turn

Sorry, I have been busy trying to help @thekid relocate back into the house. :grinning_face: ok, more like finding a BOGO pistol deal that will get him relocated from the garage to his neighbors backyard.
