one of USCCA’s Concealed Carry Magazine has an exercise for just an occasion… 2 center mass, 2 groin and when the bad guy bends over, one to the head.

Police was called on him after school shooting threat. He got hospitalized for a mental eval. I say, he had been identified pretty good.

To your point, I recall quite a bit of concern on this forum over red flag laws. Seems to me the only way to know for sure is after-the-fact, when it’s too late.
And it’s not too much of a stretch to think that the ruling party/parties would use such authority to disarm minority factions. I don’t say that because I distrust the U.S., I say it because other nations have done such things.

Appreciate your post. Whenever I hear someone say “Laws do not work”; I find it such a blanket statement and overgeneralization.
I think if one looks at a particular case and law, and truly dissects it, a particular law may not have prevented a specific incident in question, however, think about all the other possible crimes or incidences that law helps with.
If neither side of 2A freedoms are happy, then have we already reached our optimal “balance”?
Yeah, I met someone who I think would make a great addition to our larger 2A community, but that person has one minor criminal background incident in their history. I’ll encourage them to at least try and petition if not approved the first time for their first purchase.

So maybe we know how to identify people, but don’t know how to get information into the right hands?

I think most of us here know that if the current laws on the book were enforced, 95% of gun crimes would go away. Would this guy have fallen through the 5% gap, who knows. Since he was on 7 watch lists, somebody in one of those agencies would/should have rolled up in front of his home to ask questions.
Isn’t this exactly the reason Homeland Security was created? To match up information so somebody doesn’t fall through the cracks. I would also think that with our present government officials in office they would keep a sharp eye out for somebody like this to use against the 2A community. Maybe the current officials would prefer a situation like this to happen to make an even larger outcry against guns. Stranger things have happened in the past. Obozo did sell guns to the Mexican cartels….

Keeping an eye on the headlines, by the way. President Biden is supposed to make a speech in Buffalo, but the headlines are all over the place regarding whether or not he’ll call for more gun control. His party is certainly pushing him to do so.

Giving up all our rights to privacy sure doesn’t seem to have made us any safer.
I’m sure there will be a big push to pass a bunch of anti gun laws using this event as an excuse. Of course none of the laws they will propose would have stopped this event, but if we just keep giving up a few more freedoms we might be safer some day:/

If I could wave a magic wand and make all firearms disappear, I don’t think that would make us any safer. I’d be willing to try it, too, just to satisfy my own curiosity. But I suspect we’d just get thugs with knifes and baseball bats killing people who can’t defend themselves. Colt made us equals, and we’d be removing the equalizer.

Yup. If you want to get rid of violence your magic wand wave would have to put everyone in straight jackets and chains. That is the only way to guarantee that violent people don’t pray on the weak.
I prefer allowing the good people to have a chance to defend themselves from the bad even if that occasionally gets a little messy. Add in some working together to make sure everyone has the support and opportunities needed to succeed and we just might make the world a better place.

He should have. Another Government failure. New York has red flag laws and he was investigated and spent time in a mental hospital in the past. A good example that you can have all the gun laws and in spite of them those who are criminals or want to harm others can still get them. Another little known fact, some of the Victim’s families have stated that they wish that New York gun laws were LESS RESTRICTIVE.

Seems to me that whenever they want more gun control, there is an uptick in shootings. Could the left be using “trigger words” that cause people to go on a rampage? Why not? If Trump used trigger words to cause an insurrection, then so do they.

There is an uptick in mass shootings when gun control is mentioned, nut cases want the law named after them or one of their victims, then there is the “gubbermint con spear a-c” crud too.
