Ammo Shipping Cost

Its been a while since I’ve ordered ammo. I placed an order with Underwood yesterday for 5 boxes, 20 rounds each 9mm. I was surprised shipping was $24 for 100 rounds of 9mm using UPS.

Is that the going rate today, or is Underwood shipping just high? I looked at ammoseek, but didn’t check shipping from any of their listings as I didn’t recognize any of them … also I was getting tired doing off-hand one-handed keyboard work and hit that point I was ready to be done!

Is that shipping and hazmat? That does seem a little high for shipping.

I think shipping and hazmat …

I always buy quantity when I can afford it. It helps lower the unit price.

I suppose still cheaper than buying at LGS?
Cherish your freedom and keep your state free. Last time I was able to buy online was eight years ago.

I always buy minimum of 1,000 rds to keep shipping as low as possible (per round).
Usually it costs me $15 - $20 for such package.

Recently a lot of online stores started offering “free shipping”.

My experience has been that ammo purchased in small quantities will be cheaper locally than getting a deal and having to pay shipping.

When I buy bulk, I always search for a seller that offers free shipping at a certain spend level and try to buy at least that minimum quantity.

This place last time had flat rate 7.50 other times it is one 16 to 19 … That is one thing I watch if they give a good price and then backdoor you on shipping. I buy thousands of rounds at a time …

I use this place alot to check prices. https://www.bulkcheapammo.com/

Try Target Sports. Free shipping on bulk. If you join their club free shipping on any size order plus a 8% discount. The cost is $100, so to justify it depends on how much ammo you buy. The shipping is quick.

Doesn’t Midway USA give free shipping if you spend enough?

:person_shrugging:.

I’ve never bought ammo from them, but they just shipped my reloading equipment for free and it was only just over $100.

I make back the cost of membership with my first order every year. No shipping for the remainder of the year plus 8% discount. Great company!

Lots of ammo suppliers out there give “free” shipping over a certain $$$$

Buying in bulk hurts, but also pays off in droves!

In my experience not on ammo, but on other things. Having said that, they have free shipping days once a month or so that include ammo. I get stuff from them pretty often, and just leave it in my cart til I spot a free shipping day.

I just looked at Midway. The landed price is ~10 dollars more than what I paid, $159.44 vs. $149.19 direct from Underwood. I’ve not seen any of this ammo at a LGS, so I guess I was going to pay the price one way or another if I stayed determined to get this specific SD ammo. I don’t know about you guys, but 100 rounds of self defense ammo qualifies as bulk to me

Edit: If you look close I put the 68 grain in the cart by mistake to check landed price, but the 90 grain is the same price

Yeah, I use Underwood SD ammo myself. Sometimes I order directly from them, sometimes Midway. If I’ve found a free shipping day at Midway, they get the order. Otherwise I go straight to Underwood.

I use Optics Planet any order over $50 is usually free shipping.
