He’s buying large rifle ammo. Expensive!
@Gary_H: Yes, I think $24 is high for shipping. Like most on this board, I look for free shipping, usually based on volume…although, as noted, Optics Planet, Bereli, and others often have “free” shipping on low volumes and decent pricing. Do I think you got “taken to the cleaners?”
No, you bought a very good, SD, 9mm round exactly when you wanted it and saved yourself time searching for the “ultimate buy.”
Good purchase! ![]()
Used to love that about Midway but we can’t have nice things anymore in California
First, don’t buy ammo 100 rounds at a time (assume you’re talking about range ammo). Go to a local gun show and buy boxes of 1000 a few times a year - get online rates and no shipping costs. And at the gun show, you can also get hollow points 50-100 at a time if you want.
I often buy SD ammo from Freedom Munitions. I select their house brand, which sells in 50-round boxes for the same price as 20-25 rounds of the big name stuff. I usually couple it with larger quantities of range ammo to reach their ‘free shipping’ threshold. I sometimes do buy from the LGS when they’re running a good enough sale to allow me to buy smaller quantities. The smaller cash outlay is sometimes much more budget friendly.
PS: I have fired thousands of rounds of Freedom Munitions’ house brand 9mm FMJ range ammo as well as 9mm JHP. I have never experienced even one failure to feed, fire, or eject across several platforms. I highly recommend their products.
I get most of my ammo from Ammo Supply Warehouse www.ammosupplywarehouse.com. Their prices are very reasonable and depending on quantity sometimes includes free shipping. They have two locations, one east and one west. Fortunately for me I live just a few miles from their west location so I can pick ammo up the same day with no shipping required.
