Nathan57 I didn’t say gun control policies, those are your words. There are ample ways that mental health, economic, and law enforcement policies could be implemented with a positive effect and no harm to gun owners. Policies that more Democrats than Republicans support. That’s why I’ve been leaning toward Democratic candidates. Please don’t ask for specifics. That could be a whole college course.

I’m confused because the OP referenced the 2A and your response is talking about the 2A and gun owners, I thought we were talking about gun laws

I think that happens a lot. It’s similar to that “support your team” mentality that I mentioned, earlier.
My grandfather was a WWII vet and an old school union worker. He would tell us over and over again that our well-being depended on having Democrats in charge. He stuck to it, but had kind of a crisis when John Kerry ran for president. He quietly told me that he had never voted for a Republican in his life and would not start now, but he refused to vote for John Kerry, so he wasn’t sure what to do.

I don’t consider being a Republican to be a worthy life goal.
I understand that some folks here see things different, but I don’t care for either party.
If we were choosing between clowns and mimes, I might close my eyes and admit that I have a preference. But it’s not because I’m in love with one of them, it’s just that one annoys me more than the other. So it wouldn’t mean a damned thing to me if you said to me, “That guy is a clown in name only!”

I knew a couple old timers with the same mindset! I only know a couple now, they have been silent, they keep their mouth shut, they don’t voice their opinion’s like they previously did, because they know this administration is a joke.

Nathan57 I assumed the OP was equating 2A people who vote for Democrats with gun owning people who vote for Democrats (Democrats with a bias against gun rights). It’s a broad question and I provided a broad answer. But to relate it specifically to guns, here’s an example: felons and gun ownership. Commit a felony, loose your guns. A policy that a law abiding gun owner need not worry about. Maybe there should be a provision to reinstate ownership, maybe not. Not sure where I stand on that issue. Here’s another: required training for first time gun owners. Not a threat to gun owners. I’d support this because, personally, I don’t want a first time owner showing up at my range with their brand new pistol not knowing how to clear a misfire, or even knowing the basic rules of safety. Democrats are generally more amenable to this than Republicans. When the recently passed legislation requiring enhanced background checks for 18-21 year olds is hailed as a major accomplishment, I don’t worry to much about over reach.

My club has a test before a person can join as a new member. This is exactly why they do this.
There’s a store with an indoor range that I’ve come to avoid for just this reason. Any Gomer can walk in and rent a firearm, then stand there on the line without a clue what to do. They always have range safeties who do a decent job, but it just makes me nervous.

I think this becomes less clear when we consider how many things are felonies.
I used to work in security, and I saw dozens of people a day who were actively committing a felony.
But should a 22 year old college student who is carrying a pocket knife with a 2.2" long blade (this is a small knife) really lose their Right to keep and bear arms for life because they had a pocket knife when they checked a book out at the library?
What if the orientation employee told all of the students the max legal knife length on campus was 4" when asked, but that doesn’t excuse committing the felony? (true story, that’s what happened)
What about the 45 year old alum who has a multi-tool in their glovebox in their car when they park in the stadium to attend a sports game? That was also a felony. Why should this person be denied their Right to keep and bear arms?
There are a lot of examples out there (a lot) of felonies that probably shouldn’t even be illegal to begin with.

There are states that require training to get a carry permit, with lots of people permitted.
There are also states that do not require training to get a carry permit, with lots of people permitted.
Is there any data indicating a difference in safety/accidents/negligence between these states?
Or, is there any other data of any kind out there indicating that government mandated training makes anybody safer?

Regarding new shooters and misfires, if you are to win over new owners it would really help to teach those newbies how to clear misfires, FTF’s, but yeah, it should be done under supervision and after viewing a few YouTube vids. Women who are not as accustomed to men at understanding a mechanical thing’s way of working especially need to be instructed without making them feel stupid or excluded. (They can’t be too stupid if they married us. Right?)
The range I use has a range rule to call one of the guys working the counter to clear a misfire. I would rather clear it myself but it doesn’t bother me. I am simply glad there is a place to go in the city to use my excellent little machines I’ve had since '83 and a new pistol I bought this year. I had one misfire this year. One of the guys told me it might be my grip. I am not a big guy, so limp wristing a semi-auto would be a plausible guess from someone giving advice to someone my size. I appreciated the thought, but after fifty-five years of shooting having started in Scouting I kinda got the hang of it by now. “There are no dumb questions” and I still welcome advice whether it is appropriate or not.

#Crockett… interesting, free speech and freedom of religion (and unions) have killed more people than guns (actually none have killed anybody-- its always people who kill), but the democrats aren’t willing nor trying to regulate these, Have you ever wondered why gun ownership (2nd Amendment) is different?
I am all for free speech (BOTH ways) and I am a Bible Believing Christian and support people’s rights to that right, so with a logical conclusion-- I support the 2nd Amendment and the right to all common weapons for protection (not just firearms).
I do applaud you willingness to respond to the post.

I’ve become less and less interested in party affiliation, and more and more interested in how a given candidate views civil liberties. It’s not a perfect test, but if a candidate doesn’t support the Bill of Rights, they shouldn’t be running. That goes for Democrats and Republicans both, and I’ve seen examples in each party.
