Walking through Nordstrom, my EDC was momentarily exposed when I bent over to pick up an item a lady had dropped. Security guard saw it and casually said, “this is a no gun zone.”. I told the guy I hadn’t seen any “No Guns Allowed” signs. He took me outside and pointed to that one. Then he said, just keep it out of sight, we’ll be good.
Yep, this guy wall a Mall Cop, hired POST Certified, armed guard. They’d had a couple of gang problems at this mall, shoot outs so to speak, so they went to armed guards to try to keep the little heads away.
Then if I meet a person that was cool like this guy was, how is the police going to know if you don’t tell them. I do have the right to not self incriminate.
I sure as hell wouldn’t give my name to me!
I don’t know where I’ve been!
I sure as hell wouldn’t try and detain you!
We talked, we’re kool, nuff said!
My numba one rule was/is DO NO HARM!
If it’s Danger Close, Innocents in peril?
That’s a whole nuther ballgame! Threat Neutralized pronto.
I never ever hassled gunners… ever!
Sgt. Shultz school of guarding: I know nothing!
This behavior would put me on alert as I have seen weird people suddenly become violent on several occasions. Though these days it can be very hard to tell when someone is talking to themselves or talking on the phone using an earbud. Plus any adult paying too much attention to kids they obviously don’t know also starts to draw a lot of my attention.
Where I live and everywhere I have ever been in this country people walking down the road with a rifle in a none hunting or none 2A gathering setting is incredibly unusual. So unusual that I can’t recall ever seeing it in an urban or suburban setting even though I live in a very gun friendly area. Usually the rifles don’t come out until people think there is a significant chance they will be imminently needed.
When I visited Guatemala I quickly realized that in the somewhat safer areas the police and military only carried handguns. In the borderline areas they had rifles slung over the backs of their shoulders. In the clearly sketchy areas they had them slung in front and kept their heads on a constant swivel. So when I see a rifle in a none hunting setting my OODA loop kicks into gear.
I have seen more than a few people on the internet (not on this forum) who seem to dream of a world where it is socially acceptable to go about their daily lives in full battle gear. If I lived in an area where I felt I needed a rifle to safely walk down the street or guard my son at the bus stop I would be looking to move to a new area ASAP.
Not super common but we do occasionally see women and men with rifles walking around the streets. I personally wouldn’t do it unless I was in the middle of a conflict but again smart or not, It’s LEGAL, you can do it.
I agree; while walking around with a rifle might be legal, it doesn’t generally spark … productive conversations with Karens…
I recall seeing a video clip of a gentleman carrying an AR15, 30 minutes down the road in Downtown Franklin, TN (Red State but blueish-purple city). Apparently “someone” confirmed with the Chief of Police it would be “legal” as long as the chamber was empty per the Chief. He refused to discuss with the police whether the chamber was empty while he also refused to discuss whether it was himself (or a member of his party) who contacted the Chief of Police that very morning - citing the 2nd Amendment. … … …
DUDE - “While all things may be permissible, not all things are beneficial!” (The Apostle Paul) you’re hurting the persona of the 2A Community, displaying a rebellious & prideful attitude to go with your scary firearm.
There’s a Rule in Hand to Hand Fighting that applies here:
Get Off The Defense Get on The Offense, Make your opponent respond to you as soon as possible.
Where does Responsibility come into the equation? If carrying concealed is with in your rights and serves to calm the community, why carry exposed? I know some see compromise as something best practiced by other’s. I don’t.
