Welcome, @Michael1!

My workplace is a designated “Gun Free Zone”, if caught carrying on person it’s a termination offense. I’ve been exploring options for that SHTF situation at work and am considering a collapsible baton and pepper spray for my backpack.
My workplace is… I’m self employed, so my policy is: If you do not have a firearm, one will be issued to you. If you already have a firearm, 50 rounds must be provided to me to shoot your firearm at the range prior to that day of work.
I have never worked for anyone that allowed you to carry on the premises what I have seen in some places is the particular local business doesn’t have an actual official policy but tells you not to anyway in this case as long as you are obeying state and federal law this is something you could fight however picking your own battles is important because if you fight the issue you could lose your job
What I’m curious about is if there’s any protection for someone who fires you over the issue just for inquiring into the policy some liberal who finds out you have a carry permit it doesn’t want you to work there just on that principle
If someone was fired, just because they have a carry permit, that would be very good grounds for a wrongful termination suit. That would be like saying if you drive a Chevy truck, you can’t work here because the boss likes Fords. I think you would even have a case if they didn’t have an official policy against carrying a firearm, and they didn’t have any signage prohibiting it. You would probably still be unemployed, but you could probably have a legal case against the termination.
That depends on the state, @Chad. @45IPAC is right that you may have a case for wrongful termination in some states. Others, like Wisconsin, are at will states.
That’s just one more of the awesome reasons I love working for the USCCA… we’re encouraged to carry
Our company guide book says if you are caught with a weapon of any kind it’s automatic termination, but being a truck driver like several others I’ve seen on here, I carry for my own protection as I can always find another job with a clean record and been driving for over 20 years.
Most companies reserve the right to terminate for any reason. It’s very loose terminology for that purpose; “to terminate with or without cause for any reason”. Trying to fight it would prove to be a battle not worth fighting.
However, asking the question in a way that may indicate your “concern if people are carrying” at the workplace, might buffer the boss’s curiosity that you are inquiring for yourself.
My workplaces firearm policy? 15 year mandatory minimum if you bring one there. Damned Casino’s…
@Dawn - I wish I could work in a place like that!
I work on a ship in the US Merchant Marine, so no guns allowed where I work.
@Nathan, that always surprises me - don’t you guys have a pirate problem from time to time? this whole thing just seems backwards to me.
The ship I am on works exclusively in the Delaware Bay and River. Not many pirates to worry about here anyway, but areas such as the Horn of Africa (Somalia) and the Malaca Straight (Malaysia and Singapore) are notorious pirate areas.
Ugh, mine sucks.
No carry of weapons of any type in the building. I’ve never been yelled at for my knives as I use them to open boxes… but I’ve brought up CC with our GM, and got knocked down.
Run, hide, fight is the corporate stance. I guess I have to throw computer monitors at people as my defense.
So, I just opt to “run” to my truck 50 feet away, unlock my pistol from it’s lockbox, and defend myself. Sucks that I can’t carry all day long. Still wear my holster most days, and some co-workers have seen it, and given me an interesting looks.
I can not carry at work due to corporate polices (surprise we are owned by a California company). I have actually been told by coworkers (non-gun owners) they wish I was allowed to carry at work, they would feel safer.
This has come up a few times after a workplace shooting by a disgruntled employee from a business less than a mile from all of our campus last year.
It also started a major rework of policies and procedures. While they have not asked for my help in writing/rewriting the documents, they have asked me to come in and be part of their flush out scenarios to see what kinds of holes I can punch into their plans. Locally in our Madison Wisconsin location many eyes have been opened. Unfortunately I still do not see any plans allowing anyone to carry at work.
Hurrah for trigger discipline.
@Dawn do you have any Velcro backed, USCCA morale patches?
This board would look really good with a USCCA patch on it and so would my plate carrier!
You mean like this?
That’s on my cool weather shooting jacket.
Yup, like that!
Geez - beat me to the punch! Lol!
@Dawn is that available on the uscca shop?
