What is your EDC?

Okay, to be honest, I do not care! What I want to know is why? What is it about your EDC that makes it your EDC? What factors did you gather together to decide this is what I need to have to carry? Then, what factors did you use to decide what ammo you use with it?

I will go first. I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry 2 which is a ,45 ACP. This compact cannon without wheels is as small as a P365 X just a little fatter like me. Except I am six feet tall and 300 lbs. I like how compact it is and I am very comfortable with shooting it. I use Federal Law Enforcement ammo. I like the size of holes it makes. I have a P365X but I just like my .45 better. My Springfield 1911 with a compensator is too big to conceal carry. Though I do like shooting it. Actually, I like shooting most guns, but I am just stuck on my Kimber. I have stated before that it is like choosing underwear. Some people like G-strings and some like Whittie tighties. It is all a personal choice. I do not want to know about your underwear, just your choice and why/

If a person is looking for an everyday carry this subject may hopefully open people’s eyes for how to make their choice and choose what they want to carry and what aspects that they may want to look for to make their choice.

Mine, HK VP9sk, euro magazine release.

Why the euro and not the B model you may ask?
I used to carry the B model until the magazine release kept getting pressed each time I wore it and since I used to carry a P30 with the euro, and being a lefty, I was used to switching out magazines easily.
Why do I carry the SK?
The size, magazine capacity options(10,13,15), barrel length 3.39ā€, the customizable back straps(3), palm swells(3), ambidextrous controls, hackthorn sights, and most importantly when I draw and present it I am not looking for the sight picture.
Each time it is even and flat. I have carried Glocks, Hellcats, 365’s, SS’s and none of them I have been able to just bring ā€˜up’ as I can with the SK.
Shootability is easy, even with a sub 4ā€ barrel it is not a pistol that gets tiring to train with.
The trigger is as good if not better than my PDP-F.
LOP is perfect for my medium sized hands, no mushy ushy creep to the wall.
I absolutely could sell you on my love for shooting my Staccato C’24 but I would rather carry the VP9sk for CC and the other for fun days.

I carry a Taurus G3 and my wife carries a Taurus G3C.

I bought this Taurus 2 yrs ago as my first EDC and love it. I did try others but this gun is everything I like. I have not and choose not to modify it at all. The G3C fits her hand good and able to grip it and shoot it with total control.

Just a basic EDC carry. We both go to the range every other month and do drills.

We both like how it feels in our hands, it has finger placement for our thumb and trigger finger, they run 300 - 500 in cost, so if we have to pull in self defense then the cost of it being confiscated is cost efficient.

Mt next EDC for my ankle will be a Taurus wheel gun as a backup gun.

We both have our CCW permit but I have the Enhance Endorsement for carry in Government State buildings state parks and other restricted areas.

We both have Lock Boxes we put them in for security cause our grandkids come over. The code is the same for both Lock Boxes, just in case we need to get into each one of them.

The one I carry the most is a Sig P938 9mm.

Choosing it was not some drawn out rent, test, and evaluate, etc. process. My son convinced me to jump thru the hoops to get a permit to carry. The only handgun I owned at the time was an FNP-40. Being a new carrier, it felt like it was screaming out this guy is carrying every time I went anywhere.

BassPro had the P938 on sale, plus I had a 10% off coupon, so that’s how I made the decision to buy a sub-compact I thought I could conceal better than a 14+1 double stack 40 caliber duty size.

The reasons it is still my primary choice are multiple. I have put in the time to go thru the requisite time consuming effort of tying the plethora of holsters and down select to 2 – one for hip carry, and one for pocket carry. Not sure why I don’t throw them away, but all the others hang out together in a box today. I’ve also put in the time to go thru the same process with spare mag carriers.

I have also put in the time to correct some of Sig’s original design flaws. I have described them on this board thru the years, but Sig seems to implement design changes when enough people complain, but do not advertise it, nor recall it unless it is an eminent safety issue. A couple on mine includes spontaneous mag release design flaws. I’ve changed to VZ Grips I like better, and replaced worn out trigger parts and recoil spring with better aftermarket parts. I have put in the time at the range to feel very confident it is reliable and shoots where I aim it.

I tried a variety of ammo with it and am pleased to say it has never had a hiccup from day one. I have down selected to running only Sig 365 ammo with the 938 because it is available in matched ballistics FMJ and HP. I have stacked magazines with FMJ and HP randomly mixed and cannot tell any difference in POA, POI, nor perceived recoil. Another reason I picked this ammo for this pistol is it is designed for the P365 3.1ā€ barrel. The P938 is a 3.1ā€ barrel …

Sig365X with a Wilson combat grip module.

Why? 2x the capacity of my Glock 43 in an almost identical size package.

Why the aftermarket grip? Because the factory grip was just a little too skinny for my hands.

Edit;

As for ammo, local LEO tend to carry hornaday critical duty, so I carry critical defense…. The difference, labeling…. Though the last box of ctit duty I saw was 134 grain rather than 115 grain.

The reason for using ā€œdefenseā€ is I’m not a cop, or a guard, I’m not on duty, I’m a civilian defending himself.

Here in Colorado at least the DA will accuse you of ā€œintent to cause harmā€ or some silliness if you’re carrying hornaday ā€œZombie maxā€. Which is just critical defense with a green insert,…. So yeah, I’ll pass on them trying to say I was out playing cops and robbers looking for trouble with the ā€œdutyā€ rounds

When I am working in anti self defense states or on anti self defense job sites I am often limited to pepper jell, a flashlight, folding knife and ā€œtacticalā€ pen. I also carry a SWAT - T tourniquet.

When in more pro 2A settings I usually add a small micro 9mm with a 12+1 capacity and a spare mag. This is due to comfort and concealability. When wanting to lighten the load even more I carry a tiny pocket .380 with either a 10 or 12 round mag depending on my clothing.

I know the ā€œaveragesā€ say you don’t need a lot of rounds in a self defense situation but I have seen too many videos and read too many stories where having more rounds came in handy or having less rounds lead to, or at least came uncomfortably close to, unfortunate outcomes. 13 rounds to me seems like the bare minimum I would want if forced to deal with three (or even two) or more armed attackers in a dynamic self defense situation.

In these increasingly unsettled times I am actually considering purchasing something with a little more capacity. I find my home defense Glock 19 a little clunky for carry. My cloths and slight spare tire make discreet and comfortable AIWB carry a bit of a challenge. I would like that capacity and accuracy potential in a thinner package.

Mine is a Ruger Security 9, Compact Security 9, and a EC9 which I carry when I running. My everyday carry is the Compact Security 9 all 9mm. Ammo is Sig JHP for all. Keeping it simple all the way around. One of my long guns is a Ruger PC carbine set up on a AR platform with the SR magazine well which all magazines from the Security 9 and Compact Security 9 will fit.

I intend to rent and check out a Canik MC9 based on @ZoldFrog range report:

It comes with a 12 and a 15 round magazine.

Extra 15 round mags are more economical than 7 round magazines for my 938

Edit: This review is very favorable both to the MC9 and the Sig 365 ammo

I believe that you’ll quite like it.

Mine came with two 10 round magazines, though oddly one was longer than the other. My guess is that this was a manufacturing error as it appears that the longer one was meant to hold 12. I was unconcerned because I also ordered 6 of the 15 round magazines.

I do hope that you enjoy shooting it and am looking forward to your review

I carry Wilson Combat SFX9 3.25".
It’s my 5th handgun I’ve been carrying to eventually find ā€œthe Oneā€.
Each time I was changing a firearm I was adding a feature that was missing or changing something that wasn’t working well on previous one.

Since I started carrying WC SFX I actually stopped looking for anything else, I don’t test any new handguns to be my carry tool. It’s it what I love and use without single complain.

Ammo - Speer Dot Gold 115 gr.
This one was chosen based on reviews, ballistic statistics and friend’s recommendation.
I tested it and found super reliable for me.

I decided on daily carry back after the 2020 ā€œelectionā€ and all the insanity of that time. I work in a white collar office and needed to be able to pocket carry very discretely. At the time, I had a few criteria in a gun. 1. Ultra reliable, 2. Concealable In a pocket, 3. Safe for pocket carry, with a round chambered, and ready to go with no safeties to fuss over. Basically, this meant a revolver for me.

I’ve been carrying the same one daily since then, and have practiced so much with it that it’s truly natural point of aim shooting. I can draw from my pocket and point shoot from my hip with enough consistency to always hit center mass at 7 yards on my targets. It just feels like a natural extension of my hand, like pointing my finger. I carry Underwood +P 128 grain JHP, which from a 2" barrel seems to be running about 300 ft/lbs of energy, so I know it will be effective even with the tiny gun.

Sometimes if I’m doing things like boating or exercise outdoors where I’m getting very sweaty or there’s salt water I’ll carry an M&P shield ez, but that’s not a true EDC.

I’ll be looking forward to hearing what you think about it. For me the MC9 would be more of a replacement for my P365 then an in between pistol. It is a little bigger and noticeably heavier but still in the same size class.

But I do really like my Canik Rival. If the MC9 trigger is in the same ballpark as the Rival it would be a step up. Plus the added size and weight would likely make shooting at speed noticeably easier. If I could shoot it noticeably better than my p365 I might not feel the need for a larger pistol.

Sounds like an MC9 pistol with a grip just long enough for me to get all my fingers on it to make mag changes under stress a little easier would probably be exactly what I am looking for.

Mine is a RIA 45ACP commander, reasons I like 45’s and it feels natural in my hand. I don’t like any that I can’t get my whole hand on. I have others that I carry from time to time but this is the one I carry the most.

My dad carried a P938. I hated shooting it as much as I hated shooting my PX4 SC, and that’s saying something.

I carry a Walther PPS or HK VP9SK (euro mag release, which I LOVE), depending on how heavy I want to be and how I can conceal, generally summer vs. winter due to layers and length of top/jacket I have on. I’m not a big/heavy guy so concealment is a little tougher. Why?

1-For small firearms, I can shoot them well, which is paramount to me.
2-I can conceal them and a spare mag easily and don’t even notice them when they’re on me. Firearm at 4 and mag at 8 o-clock.
3-I don’t need to have the newest and greatest (marketing anyway…) so I wanted something that will endure the test of time, probably for the rest of my life. (I get that people love a new firearm, that’s just not me for firearms, bikes, cars, anything.)
4-I wanted something reliable but inexpensive. Because they’re ā€œout in the worldā€ more than anything else I own, they are more likely to be lost/stolen/damaged. This is not to say likely, but if they’re on an advanced hike, must be put in a glovebox, etc.
5-All of this being said, because I’ve come to love shooting both of them, I’m probably going to set up the purple S&W for use for carry when away or on a long hike.
6-From my other post about sights, you’ve probably picked up that I’m working through that. The PPS has chargeable that work great at night if they’re charges, but I’m rarely out in the dark. The HK has tritium that look great at night.

Around the house is a different story, and a similar thread should be started for that.

Still looking for the ā€œOne.ā€

Luckily, there are many options for me on this page! :+1:

Currently, rotating a G2C, Body Guard 2.0 with Lehigh Xtreme Defense .380 and a Rost Martin RM1C with aftermarket trigger.

GREAT discussion! Thanks!

Right now, A G43. Capacity is an issue but i use +2 mags.

Here in MI, so far its the best fit for me. Im a skinny guy (6’1", 175lbs) and i dont have the dad bod to conceal it in warmer weather, which is year round generally.

In AK, i carried a full size 1911 but i wore heavier clothes year round so easier to conceal.

Im still looking for something with more capacity but still slim. I would gain weight but what fun is that? Lol

G19 or G17 with RMR. Why? Glocks work, I’m trained on them, Glocks work, 9mm is objectively the best cartridge choice IMO based on currently available information and stats, a quality RDS (Holosun/Trijicon) is objectively superior to iron sights + I still have iron sights so redundancy and the best of both worlds.

The Glock low bore axis is also a thing and it shows objectively when using a shot timer to measure drills/etc, the follow up times are better than most other pistol’s with a higher axis and more muzzle rise to wait for.

It’s not too hard to conceal a G19 size so don’t see enough benefit to downsizing when larger pistols shoot better and hold more ammo.

No spare mag because it is extraordinarily unlikely to ever be needed (less likely than hitting the mega millions jackpot, it seems), to the point it seems silly to me. 16-18 rounds is a solid number, Glocks are extremely reliable, their factory mags are extremely reliable, I only use extremely reliable carry ammo, and even IF there were some kind of malfunction it would most likely be fixed by a tap-rack, and even IF that didn’t fix it…and I somehow still had time to work with…removing the mag to rack the slide and then reinserting the same mag will almost surely still fix the issue. Quality proven good mags don’t tend to just suddenly go bad.

More useful to carry a TQ or something in place of a spare mag. Though if you carry a spare mag and a TQ and a less lethal like pepper spray plus your handheld flashlight and probably a knife too…more power to you. I can’t quite comfortably-enough conceal that much of a bat belt and the mag is by far and away the least likely thing to save my or antoher’s life

Your perspective’s may vary

Edit: Beyond the gun I always carry pepper spray, a very bright high candela handheld light (cloud defensive 18650 size), and a basic pocket knife. Where I lack is first aid, I don’t usually carry those first aid things. I do have a legit IFAK in each car, the range bag, the house…but day to day not on my person. If going out and about for a time, like to the zoo, or whatever, a sling bag or similar that has a phone power bank, first aid, and assorted little things comes along (and is generally stored in my car so it’s always available)

I WAS you just a few years ago! Which is why I love the G43!!!

Even though my dad bod now can conceal more gun, I carry the 365X to over compensate for the lack of capacity with the same footprint. (Minus the +2 mag)
