What Concealed Holster for folks with a gut?

I am ‘currently’ at 5’10 224, I wear Perry’s suspenders and a KORE belt. I can comfortably carry a G17 in a Tier1 holster with no issues, no need to re-adjust when I get out of my car.

Hope this helps

Suspenders over a t-shirt, but under a cover shirt

I’m 6’0" and 200 lbs. I have a roll around the middle like most guys have by 60. Unless I’m dressed for work, in which case I’m pocket carrying, I generally wear loose fitting cargo pants or shorts. Being in Florida, I pretty much never have an undershirt to tuck in. It’s just a single loose t shirt or button shirt over bare skin.

As such, any IWB rig is against my bare skin above the belt line. The only way I could make it comfortable was a sticky holsters pad inside a kydex holster. Still, the grip a and top part of the holster are pressed pretty tight against my midriff roll, and it gets uncomfortable after a few hours.

The setup I always end up going back to, for either my revolver or semiauto, is a leather pancake holster on a heavy leather gun belt, at 3:00. Yes, if you know what you’re looking at and study my mid section carefully, you could deduce that I’m carrying, but no one looks that close. I can wear this setup all day long and not even notice it there. I do have lightweight carry guns (SW Shield or Airweight revolver), and that helps to keep from dragging my pants down, because I don’t like the belt too tight.

I have the opposite problem, so skinny that I only cast half a shadow. If I wear loose fitting clothing, I look like a bone in a paper sack. So, I use a “fuzz-lined” kydex holster, IWB at 1:00, and a matching spare magazine holster at 11:00. They are comfortable and rarely am I reminded that they are there due to pressure, rubbing against my skin, etc.

I love my Perry suspenders! Justin Wilson always said, He always wore red suspenders and a red belt, which he said was due to his former career as a safety engineer.

I too been experimenting with different fits. I have a paddle type holster which is comforatble yet snug around my hip. For me, it tends to support itself thus feels like it’s not pulling my belt or pants down.

Found a good pair of pants suspenders (Tractor Supply Co.). Learned the hard way, it pays to occasionally tighten the screws on holsters for stronger retention. As over time - with use they can loosen on their own.

I like the crossbreed at 9 (lefty) as well. You’ll never be completely free of printing with just a t-shirt but with a flannel or other shirt over it it’s fine.

Patterned flannel is great camouflage for IWB carry

I think that you may be right. I hate flannel and patterned shirts. I’m doomed to be a lifelong printer.

Thought I saw in another post, someone commented they thought their Carhartt brand t-shirt worked for their concealment needs in summer. I noticed their website has three different width fit sizes, one category being “loose” fit (uniquely). Stocking seemed limited today, but I’m thinking of getting one to test it out.

Carhartt offers discounts such as 15% off for (ID.me) first responders, nurses and medical personnel.

I’m a T-shirt and jeans guy, zip up hoodie if it’s cold…..

The problem with the hoodie is that it clings to the shirt and will pull it up over the gun!

I’m 6’5” and range 220 to 235 depending on the most recent holiday. That said, I find the Safariland Incognito X IWB with mag carrier works for my P365 X-Macro and is comfortable for all day wear.

I generally wear a 32 degrees sleeveless undershirt and a button up shortsleeved (summer) and long sleeved (winter) from Vertx, 5.11 and Apt 9 (Kohls brand). I find printing is minimal if I wear around 2 o’clockish and if I oversize my t-shirt XXL (brand depending) I mitigate printing.

It’s trial and error for me and when I find something that works, I stick with those brands.

well… been carryin for years now and have found a truly comfortable holster is hard to come by!

In most cases comfortable holster actually boils down to how much discomfort you are willing to put up with.

Just how it is I guess… I have found OWB to be slightly more comfortable then IWB…

tried suspenders and next belt n such… found they were not a lot of help… still drooped some…

I’m kinda skinny at 160lbs… was up to near 190 for a time…

but had a surgery that was in a delicate place… so changed my eating habits to allow for it…

lost 20 to 30 pounds… ugh… still had some… ahh… discomfort… but…

oh well just my opinion…

SO IMHO wanna CCW you will always have a certain amount of discomfort…

presently I prefer OWB with a 511 tac vest or most any long vest to cover it…

Yep, nothing on top that has any kind of waistband for me, or that pulls in at the bottom. When it’s cool, I put on a flannel shirt over the t-shirt, untucked, of course. In that case I could probably hide an AR pistol OWB and no one would notice. Light flannels are single layer, for colder I wear quilted ones. Jackets are the same. The old traditional Carhartt barn jacket or chore jacket is perfect for when Florida gets “very cold” (for us, like, in the 30’s). Having said that, it looks like the flannel-lined version is no longer made, but, anyway, it’s a great jacket for CC because of the loose waist, especially if worn unbuttoned.

Here’s a couple options I have found:

I’ve actually been doing my own version of these two options with what I already have - wearing a retention belt with my gun/holster clipped to it under my pants allowing me to carry lower than on the belt on my pants getting it below my gut. It does make pulling it a bit tougher, which I know many would probably not advise, but it’s working for me.
