  14. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine just introduced a federal bill to do to American gun owners what the Virginia Democrats have done to Virginian gun owners!

Just in time for federal elections on November 3 this year, Senator Mark Warner (and Senator Tim Kaine) have decided to stab not only Virginia gun owners in the back, but all gun owners.

As goes Virginia goes the nation?

Warner and Kaine are introducing a bill called the “Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act of 2020,” which attempts to further weaken gun rights nationally with the following provisions that more or less match the atrocities foisted on Virginia gun owners this year by Democrats:

  • Universal Background Checks - stepping stone to gun registration
  • Red Flag law - take away guns first, ask questions later
  • One Handgun-a-Month - gun-rationing scheme
  • Reporting requirement on lost or stolen handguns - get penalized twice if your gun is stolen
  • Restricting firearms access to minors - keep kids away from their heritage
  • Taking away firearms during a Protective Order - disarming the public anyway they can

Thank heavens we didn’t make Tim Kaine our Vice-President four years ago! We have a chance to tell Mark Warner what we think of his stupid gun-control bill on November 3.

ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE?

ACTION ITEM

Let’s all call Senator Warner and Kaine and tell them to withdraw the “Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act of 2020” and to oppose any and all gun control legislation:

Warner: 202-224-2023

Kaine: 202-224-4024

  1. The VCDL-PAC has a new chair and vice-chair!

I have selected Cathy McNickle as the new VCDL-PAC Chair and Britton Ross is the VCDL-PAC Vice-Chair. Both ladies are extremely well qualified, each having extensive knowledge about the political arena.

I look forward to the VCDL-PAC becoming extremely active in the statewide elections in 2021 under their leadership.

VCDL thanks Bob Sadtler and John Fenter for their service as previous VCDL-PAC chairmen. Both had to step down due to health issues that reduced their abilities to fulfill the duties of the chairmanship.

  1. Help: NICS has been down. Did you have a private sale delayed because of that?

If you were trying to do a private sale under the Universal Background Check law and suffered a lengthy delay, contact Pat Webb at secretary@vcdl.org.

  1. Webpage to leave comments about Falls Church proposed gun ban

There is a website, The Falls Church F.A.C.T.S., that provides news and information about Falls Church and it is monitored by the Falls Church City Council members. The website’s article on lhe proposed local gun-control ordinance is on our side. This would be a great place to Leave your comments on that Falls Church proposed gun ban:

  1. Judge clarifies two points in VCDL/GOA injunction on Universal Background Checks for young adults

Judge Yates made two modifications to his injunction against enforcement of Universal Background Checks for those that are 18, 19, or 20 years old:

  1. ANY person 18 or older who is SELLING a handgun to an 18, 19, or 20 year old is ALSO EXEMPT from the Universal Background Check requirement. The original wording was not clear on that key point. VCDL requested that clarification

  2. Only handgun purchases, and not long gun purchases, for 18, 19, or 20 year olds is exempt from the Universal Background Check requirement. The Commonwealth requested that change

  3. 5,000 guns stolen in first week of June, alone. Still think background checks are going to keep guns out of criminal hands?

Universal Background Checks are a move toward registering guns, not lowering crime.

  1. Just because you are armed, even with a rifle, situational awareness and trigger points need to be considered!

This happened in Richmond at the Lee monument. A person armed with a rifle was assaulted and robbed. My thoughts (FWIW):

  • When carrying a firearm, you must be as situationally aware as you are when not carrying a firearm.
  • Never assume that just because you are armed, the other person isn’t armed or that they might not try to take your gun away from you. It’s extremely rare, but it does happen, including to police.
  • People tend to be braver in crowds, so if you are the odd-man-out, you had best be extra careful.
  • A long gun slung over your back is not going to be particularly useful when attacked quickly and at close range. Handguns have their place and are far better in that kind of situation.
  • It’s a good idea to have made a decision as to what you are going to do if attacked - what would be the “trigger points” that would make you use either non-lethal force or lethal force in self-defense? Remember to be able to legally use lethal force in self-defense:
    • you must be in imminent danger of either being killed or receiving grievous bodily injury (broken bones, serious lacerations, loss of a body part, damage that would permanently cripple you, etc.)
    • you must be innocent and not have provoked the attack in any way. If you aren’t innocent, then you cannot stand your ground and must retreat as far as you can and indicate that you have given up the fight. If the assailant then continues the potentially deadly attack, then you can use deadly force to save your life.
    • If you are innocent, you don’t have to retreat, but if you can safely do so, it is a good idea to “get out of Dodge.”
    • If someone is trying to take your gun away, I would personally assume it is to kill me with it and I would respond with lethal force. That’s exactly what a police officer would do, too.

Two individuals reportedly were robbed Wednesday night at Lee Circle along Monument Avenue in Richmond, police said Monday.

The two victims, one of whom was carrying a rifle, were assaulted and robbed following an argument about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday. The altercation took place near the Robert E. Lee monument, which has become a popular gathering place since protests in Richmond began on May 29.

Police said multiple suspects were involved in the incident but did not give descriptions of them. One of the assailants chased one victim, pulled a handgun and demanded the victim drop a firearm.

The victim complied, police said, and the victims fled the area. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident was reported to the police on the night it happened.

Anyone who can identify the assailants or has information about the incident is asked to call 3rd Precinct Detective M. Sacksteder at (804) 646-1068 or call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.

And, no, it doesn’t appear that she was missing all those shots (possibly just one shot was missed). She does a great job in quickly clearing a malfunction in her gun (tap, rack, bang), which seems to have been caused by the bad guy grabbing or attempting to grab the gun at one point.

The video is intense and shows just how fast and how violently things can happen:

The bigger issue is keeping the legislature under GOP control. The Governor can only sign a bill if it passes through the legislature. Unfortunately, we lost the Governor’s office because the teachers, primarily the Jefferson County Teacher’s Association, hated Bevin and his attempts to fix the pension system.

On another note, latest VCDL email apparently has the Falls Church mayor effective saying “we don’t care what people want, we are going to apply what we think is best”. I haven’t listen to it yet to confirm though. (I might not, it will just prove frustrating and I dont even live in Falls Church).

While on the national level, I can accept that members of Congress have to make votes based upon what they think is most beneficial to their constituents, at a local level, people have a greater stake in things and should be more aware of any proposed changes. If the council decides to ignore their constituents, they need to be voted out.

Unfortunately, while I live in the area, I don’t live in Falls Church so I can’t help vote them out.

Who knows what would actually happen but I was talking to several cops that advised me that no cop in their right mind is going to try and knock on your door and take your guns

I agree that no cop in their right mind will but there are police officers in their left minds and they just might.

  1. Help needed: Richmond Gun Show on August 29 and 30
So many of our members want to know how they can pitch-in to support VCDL.

One of the best ways to get involved, whether you are a new or long-time member, is by volunteering to help for a few hours at a gun show.

If Governor Ralphie doesn’t impose more restrictions, there will be a gun show in Richmond August 29-30 at the Richmond Raceway Complex, 600 E Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23223.

This is the first gun show in Richmond since January. We expect the show will be very busy.

Helping at a gun show is fun and requires no previous experience. First-timers are needed and very welcome.

Right now we have openings for all shifts

Saturday, Aug. 29 Morning Shift: 9:00am-1:00pm
Saturday Aug. 29 Afternoon Shift: 1:00pm-5:00pm

Sunday Aug. 30 Morning Shift: 10:00am-1:30pm
Sunday Aug. 30 Afternoon Shift: 1:30pm-5:00pm

Gun show volunteers are admitted free. Many of the exhibitor/vendors offer discounts to our volunteers. If you are a first-timer, don’t worry, we’ll have experienced member-volunteers on every shift to help you.

Mark your calendars. It’s time to step-up and get involved!

  1. 1,102 people denied purchase of a gun during first month of Va.'s new one-handgun-per-month law
Another stupid gun-control law that doesn’t stop criminals from getting guns, but rations a right for everyone else. The screwy way the Virginia State Police interpreted the new law caused confusion for everyone during the law’s first month.
  1. Hypocrite: Richmond Mayor Stoney now has an armed security detail
Well, well, well. So the very mayor who has banned guns carried by citizens in government buildings, parks, and recreation and community centers, and also wants to weaken the police, now wants people with guns to protect him!

Gun-controllers are such hypocrites. Stoney and Northam make quite a team.

The assignment to protect the mayor is probably used as punishment for officers who have done something wrong.

Due to COVID-19, and his Virginia business being temporarily shut down, member Don G., was staying at his winter home in Roatan, an island that is part of the Honduras. While the island is normally peaceful, Don experienced a violent home invasion.

During the invasion, Don got into a gun fight with THREE armed-miscreants. Don was shot twice (in the arm and in the trachea) and he managed to shoot one of the attackers, causing all three to flee.

While badly wounded, Don stayed in the fight, the criminals didn’t.

He sent me some graphic photos of his wounds. He’s lucky to be alive.

Don wanted me to remind all of you that such an attack can happen anywhere, especially during the turbulent times we are having in the U.S., and to please remain ever vigilant.

When the balloon goes up, it can go up fast.

VCDL wishes Godspeed to Don as he recovers from his wounds.

Most guns recovered in Illinois were traced to: [drum roll] ILLINOIS!

Of the other states that showed up in the traces, Virginia is not even on the list of the top 14.

Note that One Handgun a Month was not a law in Virginia when those traces were done, either.

  1. How not to handle someone goading you when you are in a car - a lesson from Richmond
    Here’s the video:

Let’s analyze it. If you are in a vehicle and confronted:

  1. Just accelerate and get out of the area. Do NOT stop and exit the safety of your vehicle, especially to get into a verbal confrontation.
  2. Do not exit the vehicle holding a gun in your hand. That is brandishing and those he’s approaching could have shot him in self-defense. A note here: since the other parties had a hand in creating this incident, they lost their ability to stand their ground.
  3. If you must have a gun in your hand, keep your finger off the trigger! The shot fired into the ground may or may not have been a negligent discharge, but someone could have been hurt or killed by it. If it was fired intentionally, never fire a warning shot, in any direction. (Everyone is so hopped up on adrenaline that the shot seemed almost unnoticed.)

The two men who were being confronted by the armed individual were not members of Mensa, either. The person who who got out of the truck is clearly running on a massive dose of adrenaline, has a gun in his hand, has fired a shot into the street, and those two continue to yell at him and approach him in an aggressive manner! Luckily for them, Darwin must have gone to bed early that night.

  1. Firearms-based arrests in Richmond - a look at the laws involved
    From the article, below:

“Three others were charged with transporting a loaded rifle within city limits. Two other people were charged with rioting with a weapon, a felony. Other charges include possessing a weapon with an extended magazine
”

Let’s look at this charges:

  • Transporting a loaded rifle within city limits. Under an anti-poaching law that has been on the books for quite a while, localities can prohibit loaded long guns in vehicles. 15.2-915.2
  • Rioting with a weapon. Rioting is a Class 1 misdemeanor, but a Class 5 felony if done with a weapon. 18.2-405
  • Possession of a firearm with an extended magazine. Another old law that is applied only in specific localities. In those localities, it is unlawful to have a magazine that will hold more than 20 rounds in a loaded, centerfire handgun or rifle, unless you have a CHP (VCDL was able to get that CHP exemption added some years ago, but not get this stupid law repealed). The law also applies to folding stocks, threaded barrels, and certain shotguns. 18.2-287.4

Police swarm Monroe Park prior to Sunday night march, unknown number arrested

  1. Member of the NFAC militia has a negligent discharge, hitting 3 comrades
An NFAC militia member had a negligent discharge, hitting three of his comrades in Kentucky. In late June, a similar situation in Missouri resulted in an armed Black Lives Matter protester shooting himself in the foot (much better result than hitting someone else).

A member of the NFAC militia actually said, “We had a little accident, it happens.”

Uh, NO it doesn’t. VCDL had 50,000 armed citizens at its rally and no issues at all.

That said, those two negligent discharges proved another gun-control narrative to be wrong. Neither incident caused anyone else to “open fire” and shoot wildly in response. No one else fired their gun. Period.

The police deserve major kudos for their cool, professional, and swift handling of both incidents.

Why I will vote at my designated polling place in November:

I got one of those in the mail and I thought it smelled fishy. At first, I thought it was a phishing scam. Now I’m wondering if its just legit and incompetence by the organization (things like this happen way more often than not), an effort by Republicans to suppress Democrat votes or an effort by Democrats to create an excuse to contest November’s election results if it doesn’t go the way they want.

If it is legit, it is a little scary as they seem to have information on how often I’ve gone to the polls.

@George80 At least it wasn’t an actual ballot, like in some states. Just a pre-filled application for an absentee ballot. If anyone does actually need an absentee ballot, go to the official Virginia State website.

If we’re voting on conspiracy theorys, that the one I pick. Either that or gross incompetence and a failure to keep the voting rolls clean.
