Virginia may be ground zero!

@Derek My last ship was USS Ft Fisher (LSD-40). Had both Marines and SEALs onboard. Good folks, the lot. Don’t try outdoing a SEAL on pushups! CO of Marine detachment was trying to keep his troops busy… One of the guys volunteered to work in my Engine Room. Because of the temperature and noise, he found something else to do after 30 minutes. We will have tens of thousands of military showing up to our event. That alone is worth attention. We try to stay as far away from politics as possible…

Are you going into " This is most definitely not a trap, I pinky swear" enclosure or be outside on overwatch? Inside, the pistol won’t fly. Outside I would want at least a “rifle” calibre pistol, Because "MERICA":eyes::innocent::roll_eyes::us_outlying_islands::grin:

@Zavier_D The 1911-A1 .45 is adequate for self-defense. My kit is in a small daypack. Will leave it with :crayon: bros. I plan on visiting the “Kill Zone” with my camera only. :us_outlying_islands: “MERICA” brother,

God Bless those Crayon loving Marines.

I am seriously considering driving up to Virginia now. I figure an extra medic could prove helpful. Is the VCDL going to have medics there? This is a serious question not just mental floss

@Zavier_D God Bless Marines! Half my neighbors are Marines. Plenty of medics and emergency services on hand at the event. One of the folks I’m going with is an RN. Depending on how far you drive, parking will be a big problem. I still have an everbrite seat available on the bus I’m taking from Fredericksburg…

I have an everbrite seat, that I could use but I asked for them to donate. I would be coming from Alabama so it’s a helluva drive. But I am thinking about it seriously, this is some low down dirty stuff that Gov. Northam is creating.

Be safe man, prayers are with you.

@Zavier_D There are still plenty of 2A events to attend this year. Last thing anyone should do at this point is make a long drive and end up at this event running on fumes. Thank you for the prayers! They mean something to me brother,

It really is scary how uninformed the rest of the Country seems to be on VA. As I mentioned before, this is about the only social media site I post on although I read/observe a few.

However this morning I had to make an exception. There were a few posters from the northeast (and one of them conservative) piping up about how “stupid” it was for gun owners in VA to have this 2A rally on Monday, wondering if they didn’t have better things to do and stating that there was nothing being proposed that actually prevented anyone from owning a gun. I let it go for an hour or so, but then had to post the following:

It’s a matter of the rights that the new Democratic legislators are about to take away from Virginians, rights they currently enjoy and have for about a decade now (enjoyed with no increase in gun violence btw). A little more diligence may be needed here vs just reading the headlines from the main stream media.

With all the “Trump is a fascist” positions that many on the left are taking, I’m surprised that they are willing to disarm themselves and only allow for the government to have firearms or the capability to defend themselves against such a Government.

We’ve consistently seen over history when groups targeted by violence have been able to defend themselves the violence falls off…Blacks since the 40’s (and up to today), women, LGBTQ (i.e. Pink Pistols).

By the CDCs own admission from their early 2000’s report guns are used defensively between 3 million and 5 million times a year. Unless you’re rich/powerful enough to have a security detail, your safety/defense is up to you as LEO are minutes away and even then are not obligated to defend you (as ruled by the Federal Courts and SCOTUS).

Guns have been allowed on VA Capitol grounds (but not in the Senate Chamber) for a while (I believe), but there has never been a single incident so why are they banning now? Why are they making exceptions for Legislators and LEOs why would they need guns in an area where they’re banned for everyone else?

Why does the State want/need to know who has attended a gun range to practice (don’t we want people practicing so they can be proficient and not cause accidents)? Why is the State attempting to create a registry of gun owners through using universal background checks and firearms registrations? Maybe it’s so they know what doors to knock on first when President O’Rurke (or some other like minded President or Governor) decides to go ahead and confiscate them?

Why are they attempting to tax ammo out of the range of the average citizen and demand to know who is going to gun ranges to practice with their firearms? Should only the wealthy and powerful have access to and regular practice with firearms? Again why is the State attempting to get of list of people lawfully exercising their rights?

These laws are not about public safety as all of them have been shown (by data/statistics) to not do anything to prevent gun violence.

I find it interesting these protestors being derided and asking if they have better things to do with their time, but the gun control rally’s or women’s rights rally’s seem to be lauded as an admirable utilization of time. I guess 2A rights advocates should just shut up, lay down and take it.

These laws are the proverbial slow increase of temperature in the boiling of the frog as it applies to 2A rights .

@MikeBKY,

I believe you brought some of these proposed laws for your state to all our attention, given under the new leftys in office.

However, I did not understand the full weight of this one until it was posted today on Facebook. Even though, I pretty much know what your thoughts on this proposal are, it would still be nice to hear your thoughts (Especially with your professional understanding of Constitution and law).

Kentucky Legislation Proposal:
"Under Senate Bill 89, if a police officer suspects someone in a public place is involved in criminal activity or is about to commit a crime, the officer could stop that person, demand his name, home address, and age — as well as ask to see his driver’s license, if he has one — and tell him to explain what he is presently doing “to the satisfaction of the officer.”

Anyone who refuses to cooperate with police could be detained for up to two hours." (Author Unknown)

Frankly, that bill does not concern me too much. It complies with Terry v. Ohio allowing for detention of a person when reasonable suspicion existed to believe they are, were or about to commit a crime. Terry does not put a restraint on the time for the stop to conclude other than when the officer’s suspicion has been satisfied and the person is either released or arrested. This bill will limit the detention to 2 hours if the person will not identify themselves.

@Jeff-A1 A couple suggestions…

A “less than lethal” option such as pepper spray. I’m thinking if someone is trying to instigate something, having an option somewhere between harsh language and a firearm. Some of the pepper sprays have that UV dye which helps in ID’ing perps after the fact.

Having a “squirtable” water bottle. ANTIFA is known to pepper spray people, and having the ability to wash it out with a squeeze bottle is easier. Also helpful for rinsing out wounds too.

Some sort of handkerchief or similar. If things get out of hand, LEO might decide to just start tossing CS to disburse crowds. Wet the handkerchief and hold over mouth/nose to reduce the effects until you can GTFO.

Can’t quite tell from the photo, but definitely spare batteries and memory cards for the cameras/phones.

If things go really sideways, more medical gear (think stop the bleed) will be of more value than ammo. There will be plenty of armed folks between all the CCW’ers and LEOs present. The Las Vegas incident comes to mind with people tearing shirts for makeshift tourniquets and dressings.

@JamesR This is perhaps the most frustrating thing about this whole debacle in Virginia, and to varying degrees across the country. No one reads past the headlines, if they even get that far. We are losing the marketing battle big time. The teeny tiny bit of attention any normal person might spend on this subject is quickly filled by “we just want common sense gun safety”.

I have talked to several gun people who either a) had no idea there was gun control coming b) thought it would only ban AR15s or c) “it will all go away once repubs take back the majority”. And people who dont really care about firearms one way or the other (aka, most people) dont know anything about gun control laws and it doesnt affect them (now) so they just :man_shrugging: or they wonder “whats wrong with requiring a background check?”. I’m pretty sure i have a hand imprint on my forehead from all the facepalming I’ve done these last few months.

@Harvey. Some good recommendations. I’ve been gassed a few times and was going to bring a wool blackwatch scarf. Funny story behind that one… Will find 2nd h2o bottle w/ squirter and marking CS. Got batteries and memory for camera. My med kits have cat3 tourniquet and blood clotters, plenty of gauze and bandages. Medic is in my group so don’t want to compete. No M-60? My favorite carry :slight_smile: Reason why my back is messed up. Ruby slippers??? Clean underwear for bus ride back home? I appreciate you input brother. Too old for pre game jitters.

Will the VCDL be doing live streaming, so those outside of Richmond can see/hear what is going on?

I think it would help alot, if the “Whole World is Watching”. I am seriously concerned for the safety of this lobbying event.
