Neither is the Z’s administration. How is preventing elections Democratic? I recall years ago that was the complaint about Russia after the fall of the USSR. But I guess comparing Z to Russia is not allowed… Too bad. I just did, and it is accurate. Far worse is all the tens of billions of dollars we have poured into this non-sense. Where’s the accounting of where that money has gone? Oh, I forgot, we are not allowed to ask that or be accused of being “Putin Lovers”, How convenient.

What I said was the country is under invasion. What would the logistics of having an election look like? Could you even do it? Wouldn’t polling places make primer targets for the Russian military? What would the turn out look like? Is it advisable to trade horses during a war for existence? The millions of dollars we poured in are not nonsense. It’s in our strategic interest to keep Russia out. Should we pull out South Korea? Japan? NATO? In assuring Ukraine we are helping ourselves and western /Central Europe.

Totalitarian states frequently come up with reasons why elections should be deferred or halted. I would not give the Ukraine odds that it will ever hold elections again.

Where are you getting that they are totalitarian from? They were a country under Putins yoke. They had their maiden revolution. They have had two presidents since. They were invaded by Russia. It’s like your victim blaming and inferring that they will turn evil when you have no basis to make that argument.

That was near the end of the civil war 1884. War ended in 1885. I don’t know if northern victory was guaranteed at that point. But I do know this. The south did not have the capability of launching missiles and dropping bombs all over the North.

They suspended elections, which says to “the people” we don’t care who you want in office. That’s what totalitarian states do.

So your view is that elections are antithetical to national security? If the people are allowed to choose their government, their government is less likely to resist a challenge? I’m sure that’s one of the reasons Mao or Stalin gave for not allowing any opportunity for the people to remove them from office. “Sorry, we can’t have elections right now because we’re fighting the nationalists or the Germans and elections would be a disasterous distraction.” Even FDR stood for election during WWII after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. The British did not suspend elections when the Germans were bombing London.
In the US, the people elected the Continental Congress during the Revolution when British troops were stationed in the colonies.
I guess your view is that the Ukrainian people just can’t be trusted to pick their political leaders.

I am all in for Ukraine. Putin cannot be allowed to just invade and conquer a sovereign country. The Ukranian people have long died and suffered under the Russian tyranny. Look up the Holodomoor. Pardon the spelling.
The eyes of the world are on Ukraine. They will not end up as a dictatorship. There will be free elections in the future. Are they perfect? Are they corrupt? Let any nation without sin throw the first stone.
They are not freakin nazis either. That is absurd. America and many other free countries have made a stand. Putin must be stopped. We either stop him now or stop him later and risk a larger war.
One old Soldier’s opinion. If I were not so old and badly hurt from my military service, I would be flying a helicopter for them. Either as an instructor or a combat pilot.
Freedom matters. Standing up to naked aggression matters. Russia invaded them. They have done much evil to Ukranian civilians. There is no excuse for what Putin did. We have to help. If not us, then who?
And I am not a leftist or a damn democrat. I am a die-hard conservative Republican. I just see this through the lens of an old Soldier, with a sharp eye on history. History that is replete with the actions of unchecked tyrants.

If that was the case, sending tens of billions of dollars to a failed regime to spend/allocate however the Z decides, without any accounting/auditing is certainly not the way to prevent that. News reports show the casualty rates for the Ukrainians to be horrific, and not just those fighting, but civilians, men, women and children.
The VC lost a lot of people and still succeeded, so, based on that, maybe the Ukrainins will win. Though Vietnam became Communist, so there’s that. Russia isn’t Communist, and the Z, not only by preventing elections, is acting totalitarian - note I did not state that he is, as I do not know, but actions speak louder than words.
That being the case, look at where Russia attacked and what Putin stated. He only wanted to help those of Russian ancestory that are being persecuted by the Ukrainian government, not unlike what the USA does all over the world. Recall the “Arab Spring”?

That is a disingenuous question, which is neither one or the other. As stated and shown, under wartime, a country can have elections. That does not mean that country will lose the war due to having those elections - as history has shown, it has not. We have answered your question - you did not like the answers. Asking it again will not change the answers.
