Can you believe this . Why would you hold elections in the middle of a war. Oooh, Da Money.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky demanded that the United States and European Union send more money or else they won’t hold elections next year.
Zelensky intends to not hold elections. “I’m sorry, I will not hold elections on credit, I will not take money from weapons and give it to elections either,” Zelensky said.
Zelensky said that he would be willing to hold elections if the U.S. and EU bankroll the voting process.
The cost is typically around 5 billion hryvnia ($135 million).
However, with the ongoing with against Russia, it’s likely that Ukraine wants far more.
President Joe Biden has already sent tens of billions of dollars to Ukraine at taxpayers’ expense.
Zelensky said he discussed the issue with U.S. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.
“I told [Sen. Graham]: If the United States and Europe give us financial support… I’m sorry, I will not hold elections on credit, I will not take money from weapons and give it to elections either. But if you give me this financial support, if the parliamentarians realize that we need to do this, then let’s quickly change the legislation and, most importantly, let’s take risks together,” Zelensky said.
“Observers should be in the trenches. I told him: observers must be sent to the frontline so that the elections are legitimate for us and for the whole world. And this is absolutely fair,” he added.
Zelensky had said earlier their would be no elections during the war. Quite frankly its not practical. Besides polling stations would make nice targets. Quite frankly it is better not to change horses in the middle of a war for existence.
We are being asked to fund a war between two totalitarian states – the Ukraine (which won’t hold elections unless we give them enough money) and Russia (which imprisons and/or kills Putin’s opponents). All to preserve democracy. Granted, this is all being done with printed monopoly money, but that comes back to us in the form of a devalued currency (inflation) which is a defacto tax on all goods and services.
I will have to defer to that great statesmen FDR. “He may be a bastard, but he’s our bastard”
Like I said Zelensky stated elections would not be held while the war goes on way before this. He is not a dictator, He was elected, the Ukraine is not Totalitarian. For that matter it would be a stretch to apply that label to Russia, It is more authoritarian. China and North Korea are more in line with totalitarianism. Ukraine did not ask to be invaded. The country is rained with missles on a regular basis. The logistics of running an election are by no means ideal.
Remembering my SEC training, I see this as a conspiracy to defraud the US taxpayers, in order to funnel 10% back into the US, but not back into the Treasure coffers. Don’t blame Zelensky, he merely repeats what he was told to say.
