Trump has followed through with his tariff threats enacting 25% on everything from Canada and Mexico and a 20% tariff on stuff from China. Canada has responded with a 25% tariff and China with more, Mexico is expected to retaliate soon. I was wondering what you guys think of Trump starting this trade war as we are going to be the ones paying the price with our wallets.

If things are 25% on each side…isn’t that 0% net? It won’t last with any of them. The market is acting like an army of children, of course…as no real changes have taken place in our wallets yet. Looking forward to tonight at 8.

uh I don’t think you understand how tariffs work, WE will still have a 25% increase in prices. I don’t understand why more people don’t get this.

Yes, everything imported from those countries would see the increase. It’s a game of attrition, who can last the longest until someone gives in and want to negotiate better terms. I.e., can we last longer not buying more expensive goods from those countries than they can last not buying ours?

We all lose in the end when it comes to tariffs. Trump understood this in is first term and it was one of the reasons he did so well with the economy. I wonder who the dumb ass who changed his mind is.

Right. People in Canada don’t seem to be able to afford much of anything, so that one seems done and dusted. Mexico wants what they can get from U.S., so that won’t last either. China is a different ball game. Still, I bet all three will blink first, or that they will at least make a much better contract with the U.S. We’ll see!

I get math. I see mostly people who live WAY beyond their means, so I see it is a nice reminder to be a grown up and work with what you have. College grads who can’t speak, read, write, or do math…with masters degrees. They want $500k+ houses and two $75k cars. Yeah…no. I’m okay with it.

People don’t understand because Trump lied about it repeatedly, telling people that the foriegn governments pays the tarriffs, not the American people. But they will understand it soon enough.

UNTIL They have so much stuff piled up at their border, that they can’t sell into The United States, Then THEY “get this”. Increase the price, people won’t pay the higher price. Stuff doesn’t get ordered, doesn’t get shipped. They/We’ll fix it as soon as they feel the pain.

I was expecting the tariff’s so I made a lot of big dollar purchases shortly after Trump took office, it was a lot of HAM Radio equipment that comes out of China that I was planning on purchasing anyways but sped up my purchase to avoid the huge Tariff Tax and I am glad that I did.

Does anyone have any idea why he did it to Canada, of course he said it was because of fentanyl but 2 seconds of research shows that the amount going though Canada is miniscule.

Here’s a short history lesson for you. For the last forty years, the rest of the world has been charging the United States extra money to sell U.S. products in their countries. These extra monies are called tariffs.
President Trump said enough is enough, and he is charging each country the same tariff rate that they charge us. (Not MORE, NOT LESS, JUST THE SAME AMOUNT.) That is called reciprocal tariffs. If all the other countries don’t want to pay these tariffs. ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS GET RID OF THEIR TARIFFS ON US! Only an imbecile would willingly pay more to do business in another country, than we charge them to do business in our country. Please enlighten us as to why this is illogical.

The reason for the Tariffs is that he hopes it will allow him to keep the Tax cuts that he created in 2017 for the “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act” that is set to expire December 31st of 2025. Corporate Tax is currently at 21% if they do not renew the tax cut it will move the Corporate Tax Rate off 35%. Tariffs will allow Trump to show that there is enough money coming into the Federal Government to offset the need to increase the Corporate Tax Rate, however as we all see, we the people pay the Tariff so we are subsidizing the taxes that Corporations used to pay.
