Thoughts on Taurus GX2/GX4

What are your thoughts on the Taurus GX2/GX4 for CC? With them being on the less expensive side, is it a matter of “there’s a reason they’re half the price of a Glock (and many other)” and you would avoid kind of thing? Or, are they a good option still? For those of you who have experience with them, how have you noticed them to compare to others?

GX2 - Taurus USA

A pic is always nice. Looks just like the G3c, I have 2 and have found them reliable right out of the box.

I also have its Granddaddy the PT 709, thousands of rounds and not even a hiccup.

This line of firearms has been 100% reliable for me. I would recommend it to anyone.

You cannot beat the price. MSRP. $332.99.

P.S. And welcome.

All my EDCs cost less than a Glock.

Self defense and target/competitive shooting are not the same thing. Priority for CC is it goes bang everytime you pull the trigger and you hit vital organs. Pounds of pull, reset distance, etc , etc. make little to no difference when defending your life. Get a pistol you like to shoot and spend as much time on the range as you can learning to reduce your draw and reload time, balancing speed and efficiency, and getting confident in your ability to stop the threat. The rest is pretty much window dressing. The Rugers are a good option. Spend the money you save on range time, ammo, and training.

That’s my future EDC

Yes, especially in free states, lots of choices. American made quality guns at affordable prices.

Only a handful of these models are “state compliant.”

Someday you will know what it feels to shoot something without a symbiotic twin attached to the grip that holds more than 10 rounds.

In case you’re interested. :slightly_smiling_face: P.S. Don’t click on the blue, it’s a dead link. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

The Taurus GX2 and GX4 are both compact 9mm handguns, but they differ in features, ergonomics, and usability, with the GX4 offering more customization options and the GX2 being more user-friendly.

Key Differences

  1. Size and Weight:
  1. Capacity:
  1. Takedown Mechanism:
  1. Ergonomics and Grip:
  1. Sights and Optics:
  1. Price Point:

Conclusion

In summary, the Taurus GX2 is a practical, budget-friendly option with a higher magazine capacity and user-friendly features, while the Taurus GX4 offers more customization and advanced features for those willing to invest a bit more. Your choice between the two will depend on your specific needs for concealed carry, comfort, and usability.

I have found the Taurus “G” series line to be very reliable and not just “for the money.” as is often stated by guntubers of note.

I never really cared how inexpensive a gun is. If its a reliable gun and ugly as sin, doesn’t bother me as long as it goes bang.

Not saying the Taurus is ugly, just saying I look for more important things for a defensive gun.

Picked up a new smith shield 9 for $200 off of gunbrokers. My ffl was amazed at the price. He can’t even get one for that.

Capacity sucks but I carry 2 extra mags with a 3rd in the truck. Love it. Parked my G43 for the smith.

If the Taurus has a solid record for reliability, pick 1 of each up

I have no direct experience with these models, but I own and compete with a G3 that has been nothing but reliable.

Personally, if your trying to save money get an M&P.

I have shot multiple Taurus G2s, they surprise me every-time with how decent they shoot, but you can feel they’re cheaper made. My fear is reliability, spring breaks, failure to stand up to time. Glocks, M&Ps have a reputation for good quality and reliability, I just think it’s worth the extra $100-200. There’s also guns like the Barretta APX I’d consider over Taurus.

i really think it’s just worth spending a little more on a gun you want to carry. Buy once, cry once. I do think it’s good more affordable options exist
