Hi. New member here. Not sure if this is the place for this topic but, I am wondering what other peoples thoughts are on open carry.
It is a personal decision. There are many on both sides of the fence and have as many reasons as there are posters here.
@John509 Welcome to the community, we are glad to have you here. If you go to the top right of the page you will see a magnifying glass, click on it and type in open carry and you can read several threads.
Stay safe, Bruce and Nancy.
Welcome @John509 to the forum.
I second what Dave and Bruce have already stated. Yep, it is personal, yes we have discussed it before at length.
As they have said, it is a personal choice.
For some, it depends on the situation. I carry open if around the house, and if I have to run to a store real quick, I do not change holsters or put on a covering garment. But then, a lot of people open carry around here.
Usually I carry concealed, either an IWB or OWB with a covering garment. So I carry both ways, depending on situation and where I am going, and clothing… several factors.
Do you carry now? Are you preparing to carry? Have you considered the type of carry?
I’m a big advocate of concealed carry but I can see the advantages of open carry under certain scenarios and would no hesitate to do so if I thought it’d give me any kind of an advantage. I’m lucky to live in a state where open carry is not a big deal. I see folks open carrying all the time.
Personal decision, but I think it makes you a target for the bad guy first.
The answer to this depends on where you live. How the public in your area views OC affects the decision more than any other variable.

for me it all depends on the gun I’m planning on carrying that day. I have a full sized 1911 .45 ACP that I cannot CC. So when I carry that one it is always OC. I also have a compact 9 mm. and that one I can CC. and when I do carry it I do CC. And for me it is also what is the safest way for me to carry the gun safely and use if needed to also safely. I do have some mobility issues with arm movement and I need to take that into consideration when I’m carrying.
