Yep, the media seems to be on one side of this subject.
They are showing Six Shooters on their story of Florida Open Carry. As some of the opposing side has said, It’s going to turn into the Wild West.

Just like they said it would when permitless carry was instituted in Florida, and just like it is in the other 45 states that have had it all along. ![]()
All the anti-gunners and left have are doomsday predictions. Never facts.
I don’t know why anyone would even want to open carry, but it’s their right I guess.
I don’t think that would be a bad thing. If we think about it critically could it get any worse than it is now?
Yes. It could get much worse.
Yes, it won’t if we are responsibly armed to stop it from getting worse. Isn’t that the reason for the second amendment?
Just like they said everywhere Concealed Carry licensing was debated. “There will be shootouts over parking spaces!” they said, among a list of similar doomsday predictions. Experience has proved them wrong. If anything, statistics seem to show just the opposite; responsible firearm carry/ownership seems to have a dampening effect on criminal use. To paraphrase Mark Twain (I think): There is nothing so desperately in need of regulation as the practices of OTHERS.
I’m noticeably less of a d!ck when I’m armed.
An armed society is a polite society.
That thing is forever from clearing the holster. jus’ sayin’
Clear the holster? Just unsnap, and point shoot through the end of the holster. ![]()
I don’t open carry, but I wonder if whererby a state’s law allows it, then I’m less at risk to be charged with brandishing or for accidentally showing it if my shirt was pulled up.
@ Burdo, remember, none of the other carry laws have changed. Check your local and state status.
I believe NC requires the entire gun/holster to be visible. In other words, you can’t have your shirt over the grip at all. I have been told that you are either carrying concealed or open and there is no in between. I don’t really know how true that is, but the people I see carrying open, there is no doubt that they are.
Yes, there were places in Florida where you would be charged with brandishing if someone pulled up your shirt and exposed your gun. So, it is good that the law was thrown out.
Personally, I’d rather the bad guy not know what I have before I am ready to use it.
My gun club/range is going to have to update or clarify their procedures.
Currently concealed carry has to stay concealed, unless you need to use it defensively.
And all weapons are to be cased and unloaded until brought to the firing area.
A gun range banning open carry sounds silly, so they are going to have to carefully add some new wording, since ignoring the issue is not a good idea either.
It can help to normalize the idea that is acceptable (and potentially helpful) that citizens who are not wearing certain clothing carry firearms.
I do it for that reason, but then I live in an area where it doesn’t seem to frighten the less intelligent.
It actually has stimulated questions and several people have taken my class and learned about firearms.
The typical anti-OC schtick goes something like: you’re giving up a tactical advantage (possibly) or your gun will be taken (possible with poor holster choices and/or lack of situational awareness) or you’ll be shot first (very few cases in real life).
The flip side of the last point is: an OC-er would never know if he or she caused a bad actor to choose another location for their crime. Walks in to rob a 7-11, see some OC-ing, and walks out. No realistic way to quantify that. Except, Wright’s (??) interviews with felons (70s??) who stated that they feared armed victims more than the cops. (Sorry about the citation—memory isn’t what it used to be.)
Silly…or Fudd-ish.
Yeah. But on the other side, got an email from 2A group characterizing a video done by Grady Judd (Polk Sheriff) who said they would no longer arrest, prosecute, or harass open carry, as that is current law as anti open carry. Email took soundbite where he advised folks not to open, but to carry concealed for tactical advantage and to avoid being targeted for theft of weapon, as most don’t have situational awareness required for open carry.
I don’t remember the member who posted the story I’m about to re-tell (probably with some mistakes), but I do remember someone posting here a couple years ago that he believed he had unwittingly stopped a robbery by accidentally exposing his OWB 1911. Basically, as I recall it, he was in a fast food place, and reached to get something, and his gun was visible. Later, a different patron told him that there had been a group there who, apparently, were planning on robbing the place, but when they saw his gun said something to the effect, “that guy has a big gun” and left.
Personally, I’ll generally always conceal carry, but I don’t see that big an issue with open, and may do it as the situation warrants.
As Ben Franklin reminds us, “an armed society is a polite society.” I also like what Jesus said about being armed in Luke 22:36. Take it from there…
