"The Lord Hates a Coward."

So if a woman went to the school board meeting and wanted to recite a muslim or budhist prayer, you all would be OK with that?

Depends if she starts counting down from 10 :grinning:

I would question her mental health, but I am an Atheist, so maybe you asking me that question wasn’t the best choice. Okay, now back to reality. I have no issue with other people’s beliefs as long as they do not try to force me to believe what they believe. Islam has a very long history of convert or die, including present time when they were mercilessly cutting the heads of “infidels” and tossing gays off rooftops. I asked a few Mulsims I was close enough to at work about that and they had no issue with it as it conformed to the teachings in the Qu’ran.

[edit] Slowing cutting their heads off with a knife and video recording it while the victim is horrifically screaming until no longer able to do so.

As far as Buddhism goes, I can’t recall a Buddhist taking a knife to an “infidel’s” throat, but maybe I do not know enough about Buddhism.

Next question…

Fine with me. A time limitation would be in order. I’m sure the school board wouldn’t want their entire meeting taken up by prayer.

Have you ever “sigh” heard “ummm” a Mormon “aaaa” pray?? They can take a long time to say their piece with God.

No, but I have heard our current president try to read teleprompters. Is it just as bad? :sunglasses:

Not quite but close.

People are people it doesn’t matter what one calls their God (what I usually call him). Prayer is prayer.

It’s not the praying nor the God, but the tenets of a certain religion that is dangerous to those not of that religion. This lyric typifies that, in the question what could I have done? Being an Infidel is the answer.

So, we’re different colors and we’re different creeds
And different people have different needs
It’s obvious you hate me, though, I’ve done nothing wrong
I’ve never even met you, so, what could I have done?

Police have become an integral part of school meetings ever since the public asked for such.

So i do understand what an “INFIDEL” is, but, I do not respect that is an answer. Your poem, as cute as it is, does demonstrate the best question posed to anyone that has a despicable and blatant disdain to another person or entity.
In my opinion, separation of church and state should be observed and respected both ways. Until a church pays taxes, the church/religion should remain to itself.

Amen to that. Our entire country needs prayer. We need more God in our society to help ward off all the evil out there. Imo

Yes, the song clearly was about hate and bigotry, etc. The lead singer of the group was gay, though at the time I believe the term was still homosexual.

As an Atheist, I have no issue with the tax situation. I look at it sort of like the issue of corporate taxation, who is actually paying the taxes? The people, in the case of religious entities, it is the people of that organization. In the corporate world it is everyone that purchases the goods and services of that corporation, as the taxes are part of the cost of goods and services.

I feel intellectually stifled for i am not following your thread about the taxation. Would it be possible to elaborate a bit more on this?

Churches do not get charged taxes. If they sell a church, the amount of the purchase price minus realtor fee’s and closing cost all has to be donated to non-profit organizations. I guess the biggest thing is they dont pay taxes.

Corporations charge their prices based on costs incurred. Taxes are part of that cost. When corporate taxes increase, prices for goods and services increase. Increase costs on religious entities, less money goes toward the community services they provide.

Even as an Atheist, I see the good that religious entities provide in my community and donate to them. My lack of religion is irrelevant to the good they do. Being an Atheist does not mean one is amoral, just that I do not believe in God(s). Hindu is a good religion because if one is bad one is re-incarnated into a lesser being and being good, one is elevated in status when re-incarnated. Christianity allows all to go to Heaven with rare exceptions, depending on the sect.

So what has your opinion about after life and religion have in common with the fact churches do not pay taxes? Property taxes that are levied for fire, police, school, library, hospital, etc are not collected. Yest, if fire is to happen to a church, the local unsupported fire call goes out and is answered. Should a crime of vandalism or rape, or anything required to have police respond on the grounds where a church rests, the police still respond. Why are local tax dollars supporting private religious schooling via voucher, and yet that school/church doesn’t pay taxes.
So perhaps my elaborate explanation might clear your thoughts about my quest to have your comment clarified?

I didn’t realize you were so “stifling” Brother. :scream:

Re-read my first paragraph. The community pays taxes to support the services, The community is comprised of those that are religious that pay tithes. If anything, those that are not religious pay less in support of their comunities as they are not paying to support the prograns the churches provide to the needy.

I am confused by your reply. How am I stifling? I provide to the community regardless of my “faith”. I believe in the programs our churches provide and donate to them - and I am an Atheist.
