I’m in Texas. There are two signs that hold legal weight with banning firearms, they are a “30.06” (concealed weapons ban) and “30.07” (open carry ban).
Open carry band specifically have to be posted on all entrances. Concealed handgun signs have to be “conspicuous”.
The mall I went to yesterday had this sign at the lower level on one side of a billboard (of coming from the opposite direction I wouldn’t have seen it. There is no way this is conspicuous… I only saw it because I happened to go to the lower level (I enter at the upper level). It also mentions firearm sniffing dogs at the top (didn’t see any dogs ). It’s also in the middle of the mall, not at any entrance point…
I was not carrying at the time, but it was one of those very very rare days I didn’t carry… any other day I would have.
I have visited this mall many times in the past. This sign is new. I am not planning on returning. There was a violent robbery attack in the parking lot a few months back. These signs have turned the building into a more dangerous place.
I also just found out the mugging was stopped by an armed citizen (no one was shot). The businesses response was to put more signage up that does not follow Texas State Law.
My firearms instructor told us about a Harley shop here in NM that put up a “no handguns” sign. He told the owner that was going to cut down on a lot of business given how many bikers carry, and he personally would no longer shop there if he had to disarm to enter. The owner said “But that sign doesn’t really mean you can’t carry.” My instructor told him it means exactly that, and that it invokes the force of law in NM.
The owner took down the sign.
If you’re not going to return to the mall, tell them why, because they’re clearly too dumb to notice without help.
If that’s where I suspect I will now allow my family to go. It’s too dangerous. It was bad enough with the ability to CC but without it there is a very high chance of becoming a victim. People have gone crazy and young people are out of control.
Bad guys are having a great laugh! They are laughing so hard they are already planning their next heist!
I will never shop or voluntarily give my money to any business that supports crime! Anyone caught in that mall deserves what they get! A lot of good those overweight, unarmed, badge toting, Segway riding “Security Guards” are going to do when somebody with an AK47 ie: not An Assault Rifle, that’s “AR”
-15 or 14, starts shooting the fish in that bowl! Hope that dog can smell an assault rifle from miles away!
Unfortunately Jeff Bozos knows this and everything we need can be ordered online!
That sign translated, says don’t shop here unless you want to die! There will be NO ONE TO SAVE YOU pursuant all the stupid people!
That sign is not legal. There are specific requirements by the state for font type and size, as well as posting requirements. From you you said as to where it was, these were not correct.
It looks like an over zealous mall manager took it upon themselves to do some chest pounding.
With this said, you don’t have to abide by it, but still, if they ask you to leave based on open or CC, you’d have to leave.
With this said said, they are anti 2a so I’d never shop there again anyway.
Hey,
Whereas it maybe “their” policy, it is not enforceable under state law.
You would not be committing any infraction enforceable under PC-30.06 or PC-30.07.
You could not be issued a citation for breaking these laws. You could be asked to leave and LE would be able to issue you a trespassing citation or arrest if you refused to leave.
Exactly. I had an employee who accidentally parked in a handicapped parking spot on campus. He was stunned when he got a whopping big ticket.
It turns out the slot was improperly marked. Though it was painted blue, there was no sign indicating its designation. Both are required under law.
The ticket didn’t even go to court; in fact, the building was in violation, because it didn’t have sufficient handicapped parking vs. occupancy, and those signs were installed within a week.
We were going to eat with one of my mother’s friends at a cheesecake factory in Lubbock, but as I went in the door, I saw a big no guns allowed sign in the glass, so I turned around and sat in the car the whole time they were in the restaurant.
I don’t go places that advertise themselves as soft targets.
Your cheesecake factory had a big sign? At the one near me, it’s a postcard size on the outer bottom corner of the sliding portion of the door. I completely missed it multiple times.
Unfortunately (for their profit margins) I have now seen it & therefore don’t go there anymore.
