Not familiar with Taurus and first thought was it’s a Beretta clone.

Taurus 58:

Reminds me of the Beretta 84 (Cheetah):

It is a Beretta clone, but a darned good one.

Beretta had a plant down in Rio where they manufactured some of the 90 series, 84 series and a few others. They sold the entire thing to Taurus. Taurus changed the wording in the slides and started manufacturing weapons. The first run of their full sized 9mm (PT99, I think) was identical to the last run M9 Beretta. I had one of the last run M9’s and a buddy I shot with every weekend had the first run PT99. We could swap all the parts back and forth and both pistols ran perfectly.

Fast forward a short bit and I meet a girl. Bad news, I know. I sold my M9 to my buddy with the PT99 so I could buy a ring for the girl. Shortly after we get married, a house just a few houses down from us gets broken into and she wants a gun to have at home. I took her to our local gun shop and had her put her hands on several different ones. She chose the Taurus PT58. That’s what it was called back in the mid 80’s.

Sweet shooting little pistol, and I miss it.

The girl is gone. The ring is gone. Both pistols are gone.

Been contemplating buying a Taurus revolver, they are out of Brazil and I have heard they make quality firearms at a fraction of the price of the big names here in the US. Been struggling with putting money into a Brazilian companies hands over a US Company. Living in Oregon we are all about putting money into the local economy unfortunately there are not a lot of Gun manufacturers here while we have a ton of knife and scope manufacturers.

I prefer to buy US products when I can, however if another company makes a product as good or better then a US product I will buy it. As a former plumber I avoid tools made in China because they are generally poor quality and are good for minor use for a homeowner. Products made in the US can have issues too.

I hear you, been looking to buy a new .44 revolver and I am looking at the S&W Model 69 or a Taurus 44 tracker at half the price.

Nice!

The 58 might scratch my Beretta itch.
IMO, the 92FS is the most handsome pistol there is but don’t tell my 1911 that.

And it holds 15 rounds, I may have to break my claim that I am not buying anymore firearms this year, but……if I were to I know I will not be sleeping in the garage.

Taurus had some BAD QC years ago when their manufacturing was horrible and when you bought one of their guns you’d see tool marks all over the place. I have several friends, all avid gun nuts like me that swore off their products decades ago and there is no convincing them to even look again because they got bit, my experiences with their guns have all been positive though I can’t say I have ever held on to one of their guns for any length of time. I’ve bought a few used for very little money, played with them for a while and sold them on.

Their Beretta clones where never an issue quality wise. I recommended a PT-99 to my best friend back in the 80s and it was his favorite pistol his whole life. Shot the snot out of that gun and never one problem. Ever!!!

The one problem I do have with Taurus is their guns just do not hold their value. My buddy got his PT-99 for $325 used back then and that gun never appreciated a penny while he owned it for over 4 decades. But that is only a negative if you invest in firearms looking for them to go up in value or are prone to selling to upgrade like I tend to do. As using guns they are hard to beat and you get a lot of gun for the money.

Looks like I’m buying another .380…

My Taurus G2C is “crude”, but has been faultless.

Front sight is integral, so no tritium?

One of my sets of picket knives is made by a guy who’s a machinist up in Oregon. His brother lives down here and sells his brother’s knives at our local State Park “Trade Days”.

I have owned 3 Taurus handguns, and have been very happy with them all. The G3C is usually my go to concealed carry gun. They probably aren’t the best for people that want to pull of thousands of rounds for fun. But they are a solid and affordable option for many people.

The original PT58 was a 12 + 1, so…upgraded.

The 92 series are sexy Italian super models to be sure, but there is alot to be said about the home-grown farm girls.

Woke up this morning to a notification that the Taurus Tracker 44 I was looking at dropped $110 in price so I ordered it for $549, should have it in a week or so. It’s a revolver but will let you know what I think about the quality.

I recently picked up a G3 TORO so I had something worthy to participate in competitions with (in terms of capacity and optics). I’ve already easily put 500 rounds through it.

I have had 2 FTF in those rounds. Both FTF were caused by an overly tight mag spring in the OEM 17rd mag. I have 3 aftermarket and they all run flawlessly.

My biggest gripe about it at the moment is the ejection pattern. I got 3 hot cartridges down the front of my shirt on my last range trip.

It works for me for now while I squirrel away money for the gun I really want (the steel frame M&P Spec Series V).
