Spray painting M1A

I’m going to spray paint my M1A and acessories. I’ve heard not to paint the barrel as the heat may discolor the paint. Any insight on this would be appreciated.

Not sure if they still make it, but rust oleum used to make certain colors for high temps. I used it once on an engine block and worked great!

I never even thought of High temp paint. I will look into that

Some possible inspiration. I put my M1a in a wood stock and bedded it. My “rattle can” is teak oil, leftover from my sailboat :hugs:. Realize that engine blocks are liquid cooled, and rifle barrels aren’t.

I love the wood stock look better, but synthetic is lighter. Good vid though, I ran into it not long ago myself, saved it onto my phone.

Great gun either way.

Absolutely. Not enough credit goes to it

I’ve had great success with Brownells Alumahyde. I don’t use commercial products when you can get REALLY good gunsmith level products directly from Brownells. Look there first before the trip to Lowe’s.

Lots of high temp paints on the market, I use VHT brand on bbq grills and especially on headers, if you’re getting your barrel hotter than a set of headers on a hemi, don’t worry about the finish, look for a new barrel.

Do you mean M1A(1 or 2) like these paint jobs?

Love it.

So I practiced my pattern on my scope and it came out pretty good.
