I have had my gun for 3 yrs. It has shown a lot of worn on the slide. I decided to paint it with this type of paint from Walmart.
It gave it a shine and left a nice texture on it for me to get a better grip on the slide.
It looks like a new gun.
I repaint the sights as well. I am going to get a red paint marker and use it for my front site so it will be easier to line it up with the iron sites .
Yes, good brand to use for touching up stuff around the house. Never thought of using for my firearms. thanks for sharing. I have a weekend project now.

Bright yellow and lime green polish work great. Secret is preparation and application technique. First make sure all of the old color has been thoroughly removed. Next clean with denatured alcohol or acetone, then give a final wipe with a cotton swab dampened with DI water. Allow to air dry overnight. Next the hard partā¦using a toothpick build up a mound of your favorite color using microdots of the polish. Dry for 10 -12 hours under a 60w incandescent bulb, keeping the bulb 2 - 4 inches from the sight, and the sight parallel to the floor. Be verrrry careful when cleaning your firearm in the futureā¦solvent or oil will ruin all your hard work. Or just buy some new sights.
As an old Adhesives, Coatings & Sealers guy; it is ALWAYS the substrate! Cleaning and prep work wonders. I have actually been thinking about trying a high solid rubberized undercoating on the firearm grip. I may put Talon out of businessā¦
Iāve got several guns that have the finish worn off. Competition guns suffer the most. My solution, leave it alone. Just me, but the wear reminds me itās been used, loved and cared for. Signs of age in people and guns give them the character they deserve. Yes, it requires more care, but thatās true of anything as it gets older. Iād rather you say, itās seen a lot of use, rather than, donāt you ever use that thing!
Iām cominā up hard and heavy on 63 (Don102 is even older) and I wish I was 50 again.
Maybe we should start a new thread just covering paint jobs. Cera coating, powder coating, rattle cans, re-blueing - that sort of thing. It seems to be fairly common and there are already several examples scattered around on the forum.
