Dear all, any feedback (ammo purchase, gears etc.) regarding Sportsman’s Buyer’s Club is appreciated.
Great weekend to all.
I keep getting offers to join for 6 months for free, but when I go to look at reviews of the company, I’m always turned off by what they say. So I haven’t been able to bring myself to join.
I stopped doing business with them years ago for various reasons, overcharging on shipping for one.
I have not had any issues with them to date and have been a member prior to the 6mos free offer (BTW: new memberships only). With what I have purchased as a member along with Sootch and War Poet codes I have more than made up the yearly stipend.
I too have been OK with their buyers club and getting it to pay for itself. A couple of years back they had a Browning Maxus model at such a good price, with buyers club, that I “HAD” to buy it even though I had just a few months prior bought a Browning Maxus Ultimate from another source. When I took delivery at my local firearm store he told me, “I don’t see how you got this price as it was just a few dollars above his dealer cost”. Anyway, like most online buyers club’s you need to watch for the right deals to get payback.
I have been a member of the club a couple times buy I just don’t have enough money to spend for it to be worthwhile. If you routinely buy the sorts of products they offer, and can group your purchases to get the free shipping, it is a pretty good deal.
The paper magazine is great bathroom reading too…
As had been said, if you spend enough to make it worth it then it is. Relatively fast shipping in the Midwest, some items are a very good price. I can always add something to make the free shipping level. $49 isn’t hard to spend on outdoor hobbies.
Thank you all for your input.
I’ve been a member for a while now. Some stuff is over priced, some prices average or good. Like the others, I’ve made up the price of membership easily over the years.
I purchased a new jacket from SG and am happy with it. My introductory “free” membership expired but, I
still browse the site.
Never joined the buyers club. I am an intermittent buyer ,For me the club wouldn’t pay for itself. Speaking of shipping cost CTD has ripped the pocket book on occasion. Don’t buy from them any longer for that reason and a couple others
The only plus to CTD is that due to their exorbitant prices they kept stock during the panic buying. When I was doing work on friends weapons I was able to give them the option of getting it now for more $ or later for less.
Recently bought a shirt from Sportsman’s Guide and received the USCCA member introductory discount even though it should have expired. Perhaps there is an extension in place we are not aware of.
And that shirt, I returned it no problems. SG emails a return label for free shipping.
I like the surplus area on there site. Especially when the have sales on cold weather gear.
Bought a special one time of 10 AK47 mags for $20 and a month later got an email saying they didn’t have the mags. However, they had plenty of mags when the price was $50 for the same 10 mags.
Funny how that is?
Never bought anything from them again.
I had a similar experience but with a happy ending-
At the start of ammogedden I had ordered 1000rnds of 5.56. The order went through but they were out of stock when they got to me.
I was given the option of a refund or wait list.
4 months later I got my ammo, at the price I paid while new orders were paying nearly $200 more for the same SKU.
I can understand your hesitation especially when reading negative experiences.
Let me tell you another side of the company. I was considering stopping my membership. The rep We talked to reminded me that by being a member we are covered by a million dollar policy we’re lawyers will help guide us should we ever get to a point it’s needed.
The representative aka the company actually cares about safety and about their members.
Hope this helps
Some discounts are great some are so-so. What I really appreciate is the 4 pay offers. I purchased a very expensive, to me, gun a few years ago. The 4 pay was what convinced me to buy as I could break the payment into more manageable chunks. I have bought a lot of shirts from them at a much cheaper price than what I can get at the most discounted places for the same items. Hiking and hunting boots the same.
The membership pays for itself if you buy enough to cover the cost every year.
