Searching for my first EDC

The Sig P365X and XL have a much narrower profile than the P320 and will handily accept a 15 round mag.

That’s how I ended up with, uh, a few Mark IVs. :joy: Zero regrets, though. Can’t even regret the P320 because I knew I could qualify with it, it’s a fully serviceable weapon, and it was a bargain. It’s good for practice and still has resale value. :+1:t3:

Found a shop with a goodly assortment of Walthers and Kimbers, proving that some degree of variety is out here somewhere, it’s just going to take a lot of looking. My local range has a P365 X-Macro Compensated for rent. If the wind and dust let up and I feel motivated, may give it a go later today.

Carrie, my S&W Shield EZ is perfectly adequate (and always seem to go bang) if underwhelming in the character department. They aren’t terribly expensive. I’d consider looking at gun.deals online also They have some great deals and you may find something you love for the small price of an FFL fee.

It is purple (orchid) and it is
just fine.

Yep, I have one too and I trust it to protect my life. Plus, it hits the marks of nice clean trigger break (single action, hammer fired) and slim, being a single stack, plus very easy to rack.

If I lost it, I’d probably just go buy another and not miss a beat.

Well, I found a range with a fairly good selection and put 200 rounds through various and assorted manufacturers and models. It’s a no to the M&P9 M2.0 and a Hell no to the P365 X-Macro with and without compensator. VERY glad I didn’t plunk out money on either before test firing. Thus far, the winner is a Canick TP9 Elite Combat. A wee big overall, but the grip is surprisingly slim. The trigger was perfect. Ugly as sin but comfortable and accurate. They’ve got a pristine used (which their gunsmith is darn near positive was never fired prior to his inspection and testing), complete with mags, holster, case, etc., for $450. It’ll be there a while

Welcome!
The best advice I have ever received, or given, when it comes to choosing a pistol is, “buy the one that fits you best and that you can shoot accurately.” Every person is slightly different and no pistol is going to fit two people the same.
With a few exceptions on the low end of the price spectrum, all modern pistols are going to be reliable and accurate, for most people.

You said you loved the Chiappa Rhino so don’t throw away the option of a small revolver in .38 Special. They worked well for decades for police detectives.

If you hated the P320, (which I love), I’d be very careful about going with the P365 without some hands-on time to make sure you don’t hate it as well.

I would also suggest giving some thought to some of the very concealable .380’s out there because an accurate shot with a smaller round is much better that an errant shot with a magnum, in both stopping power and legal ramifications.

Yeah, unexpected for me, too. However, I holstered with a girdle band that they let me try and it rides well canted underboob, at least it does uncompensated. Also fits my next to smallest carry purse. IWB with a Kydex or leather holster could conceivably be an issue, and I’d not want to try it under anything slim fitting. That said, I’m now actively looking to try a Canick TP9 Elite SC precisely because it should be more concealable. This range said they’d give me a ring if they get one in for rental, which they expect they will within the next couple of months. The used Combat Elite is still calling my name, though. Good gods, that price is right.

just saw a video from classic firearms IIRC that said there is a brand new canick that is US made and very small???

It’s in made in West Palm Beach Florida. It was just introduced at SHOT show in January. It comes with a ported barrel. That’s all I know about it.

They have a micro compact version that appears to still be made in Turkey. It is much smaller and about half the price of it’s larger sibling made here in the USA. It is on my short list of guns I’d like to try out. The trigger is supposed to be as good as any other Canik.

They also make an “L” version with a longer grip for larger mag capacity and an “LS” with a longer barrel.

I carry a Sig 365 almost everyday and own a Smith and Wesson M&P, which gets carried every great once in a while, along with an Echelon when I’m wearing a coat that I will be leaving on all day. These are my 3 base carry pistols. Both are great 9’s and will carry well for you. You really need to shoot both to see which you like the feel of better. My Sig conceals more easily, and for me that makes a huge difference.

Both will need at least 500 rounds through them before they start to rack and reload really smoothly. The Sig takes a lot of practice to really get smooth reloads down. With a full mag it takes some real force to seat the magazine when pushing it in. Getting some snap to your reload is hard on a gun that small, I had to really practice getting my hand opened up quickly so I was pushing the mag in with a flat handed snap to get it to seat. You don’t find this out when doing dry fire practice with empty mags it doesn’t show up until you are training with a loaded weapon. The S&W is much better with reloads, but I don’t think it shoots as well or conceals as well.

Take sometime to consider how and where you are going to carry because holsters are going to be a major expense for you. This is the main reason I carry just 1 gun 90% of the time. I have bought quite a few holsters to get things just as I want them. I don’t really want to buy multiple holsters for multiple guns. I have an OWB, an IWB side, IWB appendix, belly holster, pocket holster, and shoulder holster for my p365. All of these option allow me to carry no matter what I am doing or what I am wearing. You don’t always get what you want in the first holster you get, so you can imagine how many “backup” holsters you acquire. Spread this across multiple guns the expense would be huge. That is why my S&W and Springfield are limited use. I have 1 holster I like for each, and can only be carried with certain clothes.

There is a lot of stuff that goes with EDC, best advice I can give is try out as much as you can, and practice, practice, and practice some more.

That Mete MC9 Prime is going to be worth checking out for sure, especially since it’s ported and shouldn’t be as snappy as most micros.

Just for fun, go shoot a 380 PPK.

A lot of kick. The only 380 I kept because it is cool
but not really that fun to shoot.

Did you try the Canik METE? Slightly smaller and great to shoot.

Glock 43x is a great edc for newer shooters. Simple and easy to maintain. You can also upgrade the 10 round mag to a 15 round mag. I know they are “boring” but they are reliable. I dont need cool and fancy for my edc. Cool and fancy are for the range.
