I’ve been using tool bags for years. I have 2 different sizes I use depending on what I’m taking to the range. Sort of a grey man kind of thing. They are heavy duty for tools, so safe to put however much ammo and guns you are willing to carry. I figure most people not only don’t know what’s in there, but they also probably don’t want to steal what’s a bunch of low-end tools.

You and I are on the same page brother. I use tool bags for exactly the same reasons. They’re very rugged, have lots of compartments, and cost way less than “range bags.” I think the one I use the most is from Walmart. The screwdriver pockets down the inside are perfect for magazines, it’s got a nice rigid bottom to not sag whrn loaded with ammo, and a good heavy shoulder strap.

You can cross search on Amazon and/or Internet for best prices. I had found a good price on Amazon and then searched and found another $12 off at Gun Mag Warehouse, at least on that particular day.

I’ve been through several and this is my current preferred favorite. From my experience, find something structural, meaning it doesn’t collapse in on itself or try to close by itself; I also find having a solid lid that flips all the way out of the way and not just to one side of falling into the bag to be a bonus. Having the velcro allows you to customize easily so easy to spot. Be safe!
