Optic Selection 19X

I have played around with idea of getting another glock mos or COA (no longer an option). I have decided I just want to get my 19X milled for an optic. I already trust that gun and love that gun. Need to just stick with the one I have. If I like it I’ll consider getting my 43X milled or getting a 43Xmos in a couple years. I want to start with the HD gun first before I just start carrying one around.

What’s y’all’s recommendations? I like the idea of CoWitnessing with irons though that topic makes some people upset for some reason lol. I also like the idea of a closed emitter but I’m not sure if that’s really necessary.

I will say I just like the simplicity of irons. No worries of fog, no worries about batteries, no worries of cracked glass, BUT I think these red dots have gotten really good.

We can probably debate about it forever…. but it always comes to personal preferences.

If you don’t have a particular application, simplicity it the best adviser.

Iron sights cowitness might be good .. or not.

I have 2 handguns that I’m using the most and one has cowitnessed sights, the other has not.

And to be honest… I don’t care… as long as I keep my batteries in good shape.

The same thing with closed emmiters… you have try it, to find out if you like it.

I personally don’t like it because of the shape and size (front to back) and never found needs to protect glass and emitter. I’ve been shooting regular red dot during any weather conditions and simple puff always helped.

Think I’m gonna go holosun. Either 509t, EPS (full-size not carry). Theres also 507 comp. I hear good things about the comp, but I know that’s more for competition than duty/ carry.

407k and 507k is also a friendlier price

Any red dot is good as long your eyes see dot, not star.

All my handguns equipped with red dot use RMR Type 2. That’s the only red dot that looks crisp for my eyes .

However for training (dry fire handguns and SIRT) I’m using anything available from Amazon for $60 - $90 price range. There’s no difference with quality.

Of course you must think about reliability of red dot for EDC, so Trijcon, Holosun, Aimpoint or Leupold would be my go-to. The particular model is just a preference.

Are you planning on carrying the 19x with a 507 Comp?

I bought my Springfield Echelon in part because it came with the red dot as part of the package….

But I can’t hit :poop: with the red dot. I like the gun if I ignore the optic and just use the iron sights.

It’s gonna take a LOT more ammunition through it before I will get used to a dot on a pistol!

It takes a lot of time and ammunition to get used to them.

Work on NPOA first, then with the optic mounted(dot turned off), then when you can present it on target all the time, turn the dot on.

It took me a while but now it’s muscle memory.

The 507 Comp on a G19 is like putting a 42” TV on a 2x4.

I have one on my C and love the reticle options, but I never plan on carrying it. It would print into the passenger seat.

It’s a shake to wake unit! it powers off automatically after being still, but as soon as I touch the gun it lights back up!

Crimson trace CTS-1500

Just gonna need some range time with it.

Based on the model # it may take 1500 hrs of training to get used to it. :winking_face_with_tongue:

407c on G19(not mine)

Size comparison, RMR (left) 507 Comp(right)also not mine.

If I were to put an optic on my G35 I would go with the Holosun SCS(have one on my PDP-F).

No plate needed, cowitness with stock sights.

This is the CT on my Springfield. Definitely not as bulky as some of those pictures!

Now if I can just get used to shooting it!

Of course it came with the cover plate, so I can just take it off and go with the irons.

No, I gave that up a couple years ago. 43X has ended up being my edc for a few years now. I don’t plan to change either.

19X is primarily home defense and my best shooting handgun. Figured it would be better to get used to an optic on that system.

I use a Holosun 507C red dot on my built Lone Wolf Timberwolf Compact (Glock 19 size but fits my small hands better) and liked it so much that I put a Holosun 507K green dot on my EDC Glock 43X MOS. I am in Arizona so deal with a little dust but really no inclement weather. At 82 and wearing bifocals the red/green dot Holosun’s are game changers for me. Both are setup to co-witness. BTW - I would buy the same Holosun models again! Photo is the first range time with the 507K - 70 rounds using my EDC Glock 43X MOS with 507K at 25 meters using circle reticle only (for greater distance I might use circle dot or dot reticle). Great having the options!

The problem with me and red dots… is when it’s time to pull out my wallet… I go…. I don’t need it .

Already talked to my local range. I think I’m between the eps and 509t. The price of 407c seems nice though.
