Ongoing Situation Lewiston active shooter: 22 people dead and 60 injured with armed suspect still at large

Maine suspect was ‘behaving erratically’ during summer training: Defense official

A manhunt is underway for the suspect in a mass shooting in Maine that killed at least 18 people and wounded 13 others, officials said.

The mass shooting unfolded in two locations in Lewiston on Wednesday evening: a bowling alley where a children’s league was taking place and a local bar, officials said.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office released a photo Wednesday night of the suspect brandishing a semi-automatic rifle at one of the locations.

The suspected gunman – identified as 40-year-old Robert Card – is a U.S. Army reservist, the Army confirmed.

Abandoned car linked to suspect: Sources

Authorities found the suspect’s white Subaru at a location in Lisbon, several miles southeast of Lewiston, late Wednesday, and recovered a firearm from the vehicle, multiple law enforcement sources told ABC News. Authorities are testing and tracing the gun to determine if it was involved in the shooting, according to the sources.

The abandoned car was a critical piece of evidence in allowing police to focus on Card, multiple law enforcement officials told ABC News.

Investigators found a note at Card’s home on Thursday addressed to his son, law enforcement sources familiar with the case told ABC News. The sources described it as a suicide note that contained rantings as well as basic personal information like bank account details.

Card’s family is cooperating with authorities, law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation told ABC News. Card’s sister told investigators she thought Card might have been looking for an ex-girlfriend at the shooting locations, the sources said. One avenue of investigation is whether this mass shooting began as a domestic dispute, according to the sources.

Card was previously married. His ex-wife filed for the divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, which was granted in 2007 with shared custody of the couple’s minor child, court documents show. The divorce order was amended in 2013 to include shared parental rights and responsibilities of the child, whose primary residence was with his mother, the documents show.

Maine shooting live updates: Manhunt back on for suspect, cops serve warrant at home (msn.com)

Suspect consumed ‘conspiratorial’ content online, investigation finds

Sooo… Will this be illegal soon??? Or a reason for gross suspicion.

Information provided to law enforcement shows that Robert Card appears to have “interacted with conspiratorial content” online.

Topics he engaged with included, but were not limited to, concerns about a financial crisis/stock market, LGBTQ+ issues, gun rights and commentary about Democratic public officials, including President Joe Biden.

It remains unknown whether any of his social media usage played any role in the suspect’s decision to go on his rampage Wednesday night.

Law enforcement has not determined the motive, but they are looking into several aspects of the suspect’s life, including his writings and history of mental health problems.

BOHICA MAINE HERE IT COMES AGAIN… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Maine congressman changes stance on assault rifle ban opposition

U.S. Rep. Jared Golden, (D-ME), announced that he was changing his policy against an assault rifle ban during a news conference with other Maine congressional leaders Thursday evening.
Golden was one of five Democratic House members who voted against a ban in 2022. Although the bill passed 217 -213, it did not move forward in the Senate.

Golden said the shooting has made him change his stance and will now support any measures in Congress that ban assault weapons.

“I ask for forgiveness and support as I seek to put this end to these terrible shootings,” he said.

Sen. Susan Collins, (R-ME), told reporters that although she wanted to see more gun control reforms, such as a ban on high-volume magazines, she did not support an assault rifle ban.

Although Collins said she didn’t know the circumstances as to how the suspect, who has had reported mental health issues, was able to commit the shooting, she said more should have been done.

She cited the state’s “yellow flag” law, which gives law enforcement the authority to request a court to remove firearms from someone who has mental health problems.

“It certainly seems that on the basis of the facts that we have, the yellow flag law should have been triggered,” she said. :astonished:

Remember COVID-19? There were travel restrictions. Europe? Nope. Even in the USA - one example, I couldn’t fly to NY due to that. Not Marshall Law, but they shut-down businesses, bars, restaurants. Worked from home for over 2 years as we couldn’t go into the office. Just a couple of examples. I bet in December 2019 you were saying that couldn’t happen.

Something that bothers me as well

I don’t remember any domestic travel restrictions during covid. But then I would never try to fly to NY so if that was a thing I suppose I wouldn’t have known lol, that would be the kind of place to have a restriction (is it bad that I wish they wouldn’t let people fly there, like, all the time? hehe)

I also just traveled halfway around the world a couple weeks ago with no restrictions whatsoever (well, I needed my passport). Whatever travel restrictions there may have been within the US during covid were certainly few, far between, and short duration.

I don’t remember curfews, or marshall law.

And, back to looking forward, I think we are a very, very far ways away from any of those.

I suppose maybe if there was another once in a century global pandemic with unprecedented worldwide stuff going down, maybe I wouldn’t be able to fly to New York City. I’d be okay with that

I certainly, again, believe we are VERY far from things like marshall law or travel restrictions because of…whatever it is people are talking about that is going on these days.

I did state during the “pandemic”. I also did not state NYC, but NY (state). I have also traveled abroad, since the restrictions were lifted.

Never said there were. I stated businesses shutdown, not being “allowed” to socialize with anyone, but immediate family, etc. So, did you believe in December 2019, that restaurants and bars would not be allowed to have customers, or very limited numbers and restrictions on socializing with people in your community?

You willfully ignore what I stated and enjoy your whimsical flight of fancy. You are allowed to have your own opinion, but it should be grounded in reality. The reality being that businesses were shutdown, people were not allowed to socialize with each other, etc. As I stated, that was not Marshall Law, but it was certainly totaliatarianism. Neither is good and what our governments did to us during the “pandemic” certainly was not for the “good of the people”.

Lewiston is a false Flag (My opinion only)

You did say businesses closed, I didn’t address that directly because what I was initially responding to didn’t mention that, it was kind of a “thread drift” topic. I was sort of trying to stay with the original of

“Marshall Law implemented
Gun Confiscation
Travel Restrictions
Curfew’s…”

I don’t recall, what were the travel restrictions around NY? You weren’t allowed to fly into the state at all? For how long did they stop letting people fly there?

Even during the pandemic I know we didn’t have marshall law or gun confiscation due to it, I don’t recall there being curfews but I could see maybe some particular town or area might have tried? Travel restrictions domestically is truthfully totally new to me, I had not seen that.

But…I still think we are very far away from those things happening in the context of, some guy in Maine went on a killing spree

I don’t recall exactly anymore, I just know that we were not able to visit relatives due to their travel restrictions.

Again, I did not state that. I even re-iterated that in my second post to you.

Just like in December 2019, we did not believe what happened in 2020 would ever happen, but it did. Again, I am not suggesting Marshall Law, but they don’t need that if they can just shutdown business and not allow people to socialize, as the did. You also must recall the shot mandates. Who’da thunk that, right?

I think our signals got crossed, I was only intending to address the things I first responded to, from the first reply to the thread.

Marshall Law implemented
Gun Confiscation
Travel Restrictions
Curfew’s

But, for what it’s worth, I also think we are very far away from having businesses, like restaurants or bowling alleys or whatever, forced to shut down due to things like the mass killer in Maine, or anything else at all going on right now

Do you think we will have marshall law next year?

I have already answered that question.
