On body. I have a lock box but I would need to take off the holster too or that would dig worse than the pistol. I drop 4 1/2 hours to Phoenix last weekend, carried appendix and a max carrier at 8’oclock. No problem.
I don’t like the possibility of fumbling an unprotected handgun trigger. If it’s not in my hand, and it’s not unloaded — it lives in a holster. Just my style. ![]()
If you are thinking about changing to appendix carry, there is more to learn that just where to put the holster and how to change the cant. I converted last year. I recommend watching Why I Think AIWB Is Best! and then going through John Correia’s Appendix Carry Tips, a series of eight videos on Active Self Protection Extra channel on YT, as well as the longer set of videos there when you search ASP Extra for AIWB.
Moving to the primary question in this thread of drawing while in your car, see
Drawing Right-Handed Strong Side In The Car Ain’t Easy!
For sure, that’s why I generally keep it on me all the time. Lockbox if more for when I go somewhere J can’t carry. I started wearing a-frame/wife beaters and they make a world of difference for comfort. Plus they keep the sweat off your pistol and top shirt.
Same.
And I also “always” wear an undershirt. I am fortunate to live where I needn’t face 11x°F or hot humidity.
I live in Vegas and there’s a point where it simply doesn’t matter. At 110+ you could run around in your underwear and still be miserably hot.
Curious, what holster set-up do you use when just wearing underwear?
Because I wear a seat belt I have determined i cannot draw my gun with a seat belt on.
Therefore, because I do have a CCL and the design of my vehicle, my solution is, I securely fastened a holster to the engine cover of my vehicle, this allows me to be able to access my gun without making what might seem like an offensive move, while securing it should I get into a collision.
Now when it comes to a LEO interaction it has both a positive and a little negative, an officer coming up to the drivers side of the vehicle might be able to see the gun, if he come up on the passenger side, which for officer safety they commonly do, he will clearly see the gun, that’s the down side.
The upside is the gun can be seen, if I had it holstered on me, when asked for ID as I went to retrieve my wallet the gun would be exposed, within inches of my hand and that can make a officer very nervous, which can be very dangerous and possibly unhealthy.
With the gun on the engine cover, it remains in plain sight and as long as I move slowly and keep my hands away from it, I believe that will reduce the tension for all involved.
What do you mean by “engine cover?”
It’s a housing inside the vehicle that covers the engine.
Gotcha. Mine’s under the hood and I must think everyone drives the same kind of vehicle I do.

@Lu-Can
It depends I carry on my body for short distances, less than a couple of hours, but if I’m traveling someplace, I normally opt to holster it next to me.
I have both options available MOST of the time.
On body.
On Body or Off? If I am in pedestrian mode, it’s always on. If i am driving it is both as I have a vehicle holster that is set up for ease of reach, and there is the additional firearm.
.
I am definitely not the most experienced in this category and I am not sure there is a right or wrong answer here.
But my main concern carrying off body in a vehicle is…What if you are in an accident? I mean an accident with some serious force. No vehicle holster or magnet is going to keep a relatively dense and heavy object from becoming a projectile.
I know when I carry in the vehicle, it is pretty uncomfortable to have on person. So I will admit I usually tuck it between seats or under an arm rest. But I still wonder though about my pistol becoming a projectile in the event of a serious vehicle accident.
I read most of the posts in this thread, and didn’t see this aspect come up. But if it has already been discussed…I apologize.
I carry with a shoulder rig, so I can always get to my CC
