Didn’t take much thinking on the no permit thing here. Even if no permits are required. I will continue to renew mine. Reason is these guys running the show can do a change up at the drop of a hat. Not all states will go this way so that is my second reason for keeping mine. For those states that will not go permitless
On point here. If its free that removes a reason for not having it.
Rodger that ! An armed polite society.
Any FFL who wanted to could offer completion of free training prior to the purchase of any firearm. But none do.
In would like to add 1 Hooah to your statement also.
Vermont has always been permit-less carry, and there are at least 20 states that now have some form of “Constitutional Carry”. Today is no different than yesterday. Every time firearm laws are liberalized, we hear ranting and raving about how the streets will become rivers of blood. To date, not even a rivulet.
Even needing a CC to travel to (some) other states may not be necessary. In Idaho, we have Constitutional carry, concealed or open, for any American citizen 18 or older who can otherwise legally own a gun. I’m not sure that all Constitutional carry states include non-residents, but if so we may end up with national reciprocity, at least between the states you’d want to go to anyhow, without the help of the spineless republicans in Washington.
Hi Arnie. I had thought similarly, so I ended up applying for a few state CCL Permits. Part of my reason to “go all out” was as you well put it, “laws can change” in other states, so by my applying more broadly, I felt that extra insurance of more reciprocity, and ended up appreciating the additional training which I received.
Just a thought - even if a state issues a “permit,” that same state can cancel it at the whim of their legislature. A permit is not magic.
They sure took millions of people’s ability to earn a living away from them with the stroke of a pen, didn’t they? As long as people comply with tyrants none of this matters. The majority of folks here will do as they are told, no matter what they are told.
Kentucky passed its “constitutional carry” legislation in 2019 that went into effect on 6/27/19. We are coming up on its 2 year anniversary next month. While murder rates are up, there is no correlation between the law going in to effect and the increased violence. The increases in violence that we are seeing are more related to the lawlessness following the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, amongst others, the associated protests and riots and the decrease in active policing within communities that has followed.
AMEN . I think if they do not want the permit that is fine but they need to know when, where and how to carry a firearm.
Welcome to the family brother @Thomas443 and god bless you.
They should want to learn and train. Exercising a Constitutional right should not have prerequisites.
You know, @MikeBKY, I think about this discussion in comparison to our 1A rights. We don’t have to take courses in writing, speaking, or grammar to exercise that right, but it sure helps us be more effective with our words if we do.
Hello and welcome @Thomas443
Yes, welcome @Thomas443 !
We should always encourage continued training and practice. We should never neglect, nor take for granted, our basic firearm safety measures!
Regarding the driving analogies:
Common sense driving principles like hang up the phone, use you signals, don’t drive angry, or “give me your keys while I call you a cab”. Most drivers “practice” nearly everyday! How often do we attend additional driving courses to sharpen our skills? There are no RSO’s on street corners calling you out when we roll thru a stop sign! It’s not hard to spot a driver that’s in need of a “refresher course”.
We should all be range safety officers.
I pray for a world where people can shoot better than they can drive!
It is the world where all risk is removed, safety is promised, and everyone can feel safe and comfy that removes everyone’s right to speak, assemble, bear arms, etc. The thought process that wants to remove all risk is the same one that thinks “you should have no rights that make me uncomfortable.”
Back when the framers wrote that government has no right to silence us or disarm us, they saw the importance of it. We, being the soft, spoiled, danger-free citizenry has produced a society where men with boxcutters can overcome a crowd in an airplane and commit mass-murder.
By the same token, the people have permitted our rights to be infringed a bite-at-a-time under the guise of common-sense restrictions. Not many today are willing to say that those restrictions should be removed. They should never have happened. We need to become a population that recognizes that life = risk and remove that warm-fuzzy restrictions.
Otherwise we will continue to become a society that mandates helmets, elbow and kneed pads, and a mandatory safety course for people to ride a bicycle. Can you imagine a federal mandate that states how sharp a fork is allowed to be? How about a FPS limitation for air guns? Shall all vehicles have governors so that nobody can exceed speed limits that are broadcasted from highway boxes to automobile computers? That may seem far-fetched, but is it really? I see no difference between those imaginary infringements and claiming that you have the right to bear arms providing that …
My opinion (worth what you paid for it)
I like keeping things simple, few what if 's, maybe’s, whatever’s. Training is good. Liberty is good and can be risky. People are responsible for their actions (should be). Self-defense is corollary to right to life. Right to bare arms is guaranteed. People are different as are their needs and abilities. Regardless it is always, We The People. Like our rights being individual in nature so should our exercising of those rights be. If we misuse and cause harm we should expect to ‘pay’ for that. Just because I choose training does not mean I should be able to force my neighbor to train.
